Working with steel liner for the ceiling

Are you sure your ceiling is 36'x 56'? On my 30 x 50 building that is the outside dimension. Take off for the thickness of the walls and you should have plenty of overlap on your sheets using standard lengths.

Installing ceiling and insulation in pole barn-

I was just looking at the pics and I noticed there is a big difference in the size of the plates on my trusses versus the plates on Ironhorse74's trusses. Mine are a lot bigger. I wonder if it has something to do with mine being single trusses versus yall's being double trusses. I would think we...

Installing ceiling and insulation in pole barn-

Just an observation from Ironhorse74 pic. Has anyone else noticed that all these builders freak out when you ask about adding a ceiling saying not even one pound of load on the bottom cords then they hang several hundred pounds of overhead doors from the bottom cord?

Installing ceiling and insulation in pole barn-

I'm not real sure what the pitch is on my roof. If I were to venture a guess I would say 4/12. Whatever is standard. I have a friend that is an engineer and owns a truss manufacturing company. Not where mine came from as they were part of the package when I bought the building. I asked him...

Very nice. I considered doing mine that way but in the end it just wasn't what I wanted.

Installing ceiling and insulation in pole barn-

This boggels my mind. I have never been able to figure out how the top cord can have a specific load rating of say 30 pounds sq ft and the bottom cord of 0. They are attatched together by the risers between them. Any load applied to the top cord is going to transfer down to the bottom cord thru...

Installing ceiling and insulation in pole barn-

Putting 12'' in the ceiling of my shop was way overkill for our climate too. This is going to sound stupid but I can't stand to be in my shop with the overhead door closed. I like to stoke up the wood stove and kick open the doors. I can putz around in my shop in a short sleeved shirt with the...

Installing ceiling and insulation in pole barn-

We put up a bay then blew in the insulation for that bay, put up another bay then blew it. Started at the back wall and worked our way toward the door. I bought the insulation from Lowes as they had the best price near me. They only required 20 bags for the free rent on the machine and let me...

Installing ceiling and insulation in pole barn-

I didn't use any plastic of any type. I did get a small amount of dust for the first month or two but it was barely noticeable. I'm thinking maybe the cellulose settled tight enough to seal it off because I don't notice it anymore. Could of been the dust that got everywhere during the blowing in...

    Need dust collector advice

You could probably go to Harbor Freight and buy another dust collector cheaper and easier. They get good reviews.

Installing ceiling and insulation in pole barn-

After it was all installed we blew in 12'' (should settle to 10) of cellulose insulation. I agree we didn't add a lot of strength to the bottom cords but we did add enough to cover the added weight of the ceiling. All things considered, the metal studs, the sheeting and insulation is very light...

Installing ceiling and insulation in pole barn-

I had the same problem with mine except my trusses were on 10' centers. Use metal studs like they use in commercial drywall. It will save you 60 to 70% on added weight versus using wood with only about a 10% cost premium. Screw the tracks for the metal studs length wise on each side of the...

Vapor barrier between metal ceiling and fiberglass insulation?

I didn't put any plastic in my ceiling. The metal building supplier that I bought all my supplies from asked what I intend to heat with. I told them wood stove. They said I wouldn't need plastic as wood heat is so dry. I have 12'' of blown in cellulose. I also have a attic fan installed in the...

Need some advice here guys (long)

Keven, it's the same way in my county. No permits required. After I built my new shop it was about 3 years or so when the tax accessor came by for his 10 year review of properties and saw the shop. He took a few measurements of the outside and added it to the bill. He didn't even go look at the...
