    Southbend lathe id please

The tail stock and threading dial look like my 16/24, so my guess is a 16" with overhead drive.

    Ball Bearing Gurus, please

COPY EDIT: At assembly we need to mount a ball bearing on a 37 mm hollow shaft, as the last step. What is the part number of the bearing your are using? I'm guessing you are mounting bearing by it's outer ring in a hollow "tube" arrangement. When you mounted the bearing and installed shaft in...

Monarch 10ee clean up and 5HP VFD conversion

COPY EDIT:Pics... here are the belts. 83" and 32". Application on the 32 inch belt is a Mazda RX-8 accessory belt. I would have used flat power belts and alligator lacing, but these were way cheaper and work well. On heavy cuts the belt slips on the motor shaft as you would expect. You really...

Replacement motor advice for a Husky (CH) compressor

1750 rpm 4 pole motors will develop more torque than 3450 2 pole motors, but you will need to double the diameter of the pulley on the motor to keep the same pump rpm. 3450 motors are usually installed by manufacturers as they are considerably lower in cost; less material for windings. Look at...

    who makes better sockets

I have a set of Proto 1/2" and 3/8" impact sockets; they have took a lot of use with no breakage. The 3/8's are really good for air rachet use. I just wish they were more resistant to "disappearing for days and weeks on end" in my cluttered shop!

What tools are you searching for?

Keyway broaches are on my short list, a working knee mill that won't cost more than it's worth to repair would be nice (long sad story of buying impulsively!)

    who makes better sockets

You mention Indestro brand, how do you like it? I bought a rather extensive Indestro mechanics set at an estate sale when I was in college. Figured I'd use them up and buy a "good" set later. 40 years later I still have it. Have broken acouple of sockets, wore out a 3/8 ratchet, but rest still...

Am I being too picky? (new Wilton Vise)

I bought a Wilton 1750 mechanic vise in mid-70's and it lined up similar to what you describe. 6 months later the alignment was a lot better. I think as the 30 degree Acme threads wear and seat, alignment is good. Almost 40 years later, and aLOT of abuse the jaws are worn, but alignment is perfect.

    Hello from Deep South Texas

I just discovered this site, and it looks fantastic! I've spent many years hanging out in garages fixing, breaking, and making. My garage is my island retreat from the day to day world.
