    Insane Craigslist Seller/Craftsman Tragedy

At first I thought you guys were really tough on the poor guy - his $3,500 asking price seemed like a fair starting point for a negotiation - had to go back and re-read the add and saw the EXTRA zero :willy_nil

How do you search Craigslist for tools?

Search for specific items and learn how to build search queries and use operators to target various descriptions and filter out ****: http://www.craigslist.org/about/help/search Save your search queries and check on them daily. All-in-all, I'd say - shopping on CL is a hassle. Most items are...

    Real estate???

    Shop Cleanup

If you are still looking in to setting up a lathe/mill - I would NOT recommend them for a small general-repairs hobby shop. Metalworking machines are rarely needed for general repairs, take a lot of space, are hard to move; and you have to buy (and store) expensive tooling and stock, plus the...

Sounds like you doing good buddy, and getting a handle on things! I'm not on here much any more, but looking forward to your updates.

    Something just clicked…..

Are you honestly turning good steady profit with the resale business? I found it to be a lot of work for the $ when selling low-value items, illiquid items, and items that require extensive prep or are difficult to handle. In the mean-time things become obsolete, deteriorate, require...

    Tool auctions?

I've been to about a dozen auctions this summer/fall. Lots of good deals. One thing to be aware of is BIDDER'S CHOICE! There was a dealership close-out auction last month where auctioneer wanted to do all the small tools and stock as "bidder's choice". WATCH YOUR WALLET! They had stacks of...

Wow, that's one heavy beast. Does this mean "Stuff bankruptcy" project is now on hold?

How do I prevent welding table corrosion during a long move?

Don't waste your money on Boeshield T-9, Corrosion X or WD-40 - they perform poorly CRC HD, Kroil T40, Fluid Film work a lot better for corrosion protection See this thread for details on long term testing: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=266327

Would electrolysis work to free-up rusted stainless bolt?

Here's the bracket in question: As you can see - bolt head is inside the molded plastic knob, and the nut on the other end is also embedded in plastic holder. So rust remover would have to penetrate the bolt/nut threads and free up the bolt so that it can be removed without applying...

Would electrolysis work to free-up rusted stainless bolt?

I need to free up a stainless hinge-bolt that is stuck pretty good in Garmin Chartplotter mounting bracket. The bracket is plastic with a steel nut embedded in it. Would electrolysis work? Any other non-destructive methods?

Got tired of pushing dead vehicles inside

I've used HF remote-operated 12V winch, mounted to a winch plate that HF also sells. Was using forklift as a mobile anchor. Manual come-along works, but you'll want a remote-operated power winch after you do it a few times.

    Garage apartment?

I was renting a workshop a couple years ago and there was a guy actually living in the next unit. Landlord did not mind. The guy had his woodworking shop on the ground floor and added a bathroom and built-up a mezzanine level for his bed/TV. There should be separation between industrial...

Using PART of a forklift ?

You should be able to find a 3-stage electric/hydraulic pallet-stacker for around $1K (the manual pusher type that runs on a 12 V battery). It might take a few months of looking, but they are out there! I would not mess with fabrication and re-engineering lift mast (and mounting, pump...

Pricing on Jet 9x32 vertical mill with power x feed???

I had a mill for a while and got rid of it - didn't find much use for it, and it was taking too much valuable floor space. Plus had to buy more tooling and metal stock for every job, and that was adding up quick. Just made more sense to bring one-off jobs to local machine shop. If you just want...
