It will only see limited use. Sometimes you just need one more jack to get everything in the right position, and I'm not afraid to use it. It actually does work ... although it requires some acccommodation for the fact that the pressure relief mechanism is still missing a part or two.
But...
The cosmetic aspects of restoring my old Blackhawk SJ 18 are more-or-less complete. I think I can do a better job of lettering the pump cover -- acquired thru the help I received on this forum -- so I'll likely sand it down and start over on it at some point in the future. But I'll get around...
Yeah, yeah ... I know if I had a couple hundred more posts that would make me much smarter. And I'll be happy to furnish home address for the guy who wants to take out life insurance on me. I know what all the safety warnings say ... I've seen them on everything from mayonnaise jars to tennis...
P.S. for Bazzateer: I had an e-mail from Andrew Wiltford in London recently in which he offered to sell me some SJ 18 parts. But all my e-mails to him keep bouncing back as undeliverable with a note that the e-mail address he provided has been "disabled." You don't happen to know this guy, or...
jrshipper,
Although Bazzateer has already noted as much ... about the ONLY aftermarket part available for the SJ 18 is the pump rebuild kit which you can get from www.blackhawkparts.com. And I have a friend who is now "queer" for the SJ 18 after having seen mine. If you'd be interested in...
Andrew: Received your e-mail about parts for my Blackhawk SJ-18 and responded immediately. Only problem is the e-mail bounced back as undeliverable, saying your account had been "disabled".
Very interested in chatting with you about what you may have. PM me or send another e-mail to...
First of all ... we'll just get this out of the way up front ... I don't know SQUAT about compressors, rated HP, air pressure, or any of that important stuff. I simply have a small quantity of experience.
Bought a CH 60-gal 7-hp (supposedly) unit from Tractor Supply about 5 years ago because...
B.O. (And I mean that in the nicest possible way),
The jack -- in truth -- will probably see limited use in the shop. There are other jacks there for common chores. But I do want it to work when called upon, and simply be a beautiful conversation piece in the meanwhile. So ... yes, it will...
Hiball has not -- to date -- located any of the broken pieces. But they're the kind of thing I think I can fabricate. If I can't make the pressure release mechanism work, I'm thinking of adapting a small steering U-joint -- something like a Borgeson.
Judging by the paint remnants, and...
Elevators?? Not MY first thought ... when you said "passing air" I figgered this was one up in my wheelhouse! :-)
Others have argued against it -- and I have no quarrel with those who use black pipe, copper pipe, or whatever. For for the least expensive, easiest material to work with ... I...
A week or so ago, I alerted you guys to my search for parts to do a rebuild on an old Blackhawk SJ-18 2-ton floor jack. Thanks to the great assistance I received from members of this Forum -- and against all odds -- I was able to locate the missing cover plate that fits over the pump.
Since...
Made contact with "that" person ... and I think we've come to mutually agreeable terms on the cover plate. Thanks to all who provided me with the hot leads.
For Hiball: I've taken a few more pictures (attached) of the broken parts I still need to complete my rebuild/restoration. First of...
