    Adjustable Lumen High Bay Suggestion

Cyberdyke - thank you for all of the advice! Seems like the bank of three LED tube strip fixtures provide the right lumen output, are cheaper, and tubes are easily replaceable. Is there something about the strip fixture that makes them better (other than not looking old fashioned)?

    Adjustable Lumen High Bay Suggestion

I'm not totally sure it is sloppy. There is an incredible amount of conflicting information regarding how many foot candles are needed and this would allow one to hone in using the actual space. 50fc? 75fc? 100fc? For what it is worth, I have not been able to find any linear High Bay lights...

    Adjustable Lumen High Bay Suggestion

I'm building a 30x40 workshop (stick built) with 12.x foot ceiling height. I currently have two other garages: one with 48" maxlite fixtures with two LED tubes and one with 48" techbrite fixtures with two LED tubes. Lighting is very good in both and is the minimum level I would like to...

    Pea Gravel Under Garage Slab?

To clarify: Due to the terrain, the stem wall depth varies from 42"-66". When you subtract the 6" at the top which will be exposed that makes the wall only 36" in the ground. But, it sits on a 10"x20" footer making the depth 46" below grade (min). Frost depth in my area is listed as 42"...

    Pea Gravel Under Garage Slab?

It's been two months and thought I would provide a quick update for others that might be searching this in the future. I determined that in my area most of the concrete guys want to place and finish the concrete. They do not want to excavate or place gravel. Several of the companies I spoke...

    Pea Gravel Under Garage Slab?

WSSLX99: I see you are in Chicago. Perhaps a little late at this point, but for concrete who do you recommend for the northern suburbs?

    Pea Gravel Under Garage Slab?

Since I am heating the garage I need to meet 2018 IECC. Basically exactly the same a building a house. 2" foam up the stem wall, R21 in the walls, R49 in the attic, u factors for doors and windows, etc. This is precisely my concern. The footings and stem wall will be down 42" or more to go...

    Pea Gravel Under Garage Slab?

I believe you hit the nail on the head - Im certain this is the reason he is proposing pea gravel. I appreciate everyone elses feedback as well. Sounds like pea gravel is definitely not the best, but sounds like it could work. For the record, this garage will be in North Suburban Chicago...

    Pea Gravel Under Garage Slab?

I am going to be building a 30x40 workshop. I've tried to read up on concrete on the site here and there seems to be conflict regarding base under the slab. One of the contractors that quoted insists on using pea gravel. This guys has been in the business "forever" and I have used him once...

    The Best Light Fixture Ever!

I'm interested in the MaxLite housing referenced in Post #1. Looks like the prices referenced in that post (updated May 2019) are outdated as the prices are now about 25% higher. Just wondering if anyone has found another source with better shipped pricing or other discounts?

How to Find a "Good" Concrete Contractor in Northern Illinois?

I know that getting a good concrete contractor is the key to a good job, but how do you find them? I'm not in the trades so I dont have that circle of friends to ask. I have several big jobs coming up over the next two years including: Replace 23x25 slab in attached garage, build new 1000sf...

    Zoro Deals Thread

****. I've also been waiting for one of these sales (25-30%). Usually do a quick check at lunchtime everyday. Probably missed yesterdays posting by a few minutes too early. Regarding notification, I have never bought from them, but did sign up for their "specials notification". Nothing was...

    MaxJax Group Buy

I received mine this week and have unpackaged everything. I was a bit surprised to see what appears to be 7/8 holes in the base plates. Is this new, or were they always this size? I understand we want some play as placing the anchors precisely may not be possible. Why would the...
