Ah, my mistake. Mine is just a friction fit. There are some tiny threads at the bottom, but I don't think there is anything for them to mate with.

It's got a fixed base with a lip that fits over the edge of the bench. The catalogs show both styles.

Mine has no marks, I checked all of usual spots. The surface is grungy, but there don't appear to be any marks. There are some things just behind the apron, but I think they are tool marks. They look runic, but far from regular. 9 1/2 inches wide open

I have a vise that is a Family piece. It came from the shop of my Step-Grandfather who worked for Boeing in the Red Barn days. I think it's a Prentiss No.5, but there are no marks on it. Swivel jaw, fixed base, about 150 lbs. Any help would be appreciated Thanks Geoff
