I've just uploaded the step files and STLs for my AR grip and buttstock to grabcad: ar grip ar buttstock with recoil pad

I use con-Fusion or Inventor mostly. Just kept banging on it until I get it to do what I want. One big problem I had with Fusion on first learning it was its default 'parametric history' timeline mode. I always turn that off and use 'direct modeling'. Just have to remember to save frequently.

Another thing to think about when going larger for the sake of bigger single-piece prints is the increased loss from failed prints. If you can break the design into smaller prints you reduce the risk that failure of a single print will scrap the entire assembly.

Unnecessarily going bigger has its drawbacks. It will add mass to the x,y mechanism, which can negatively affect print quality due to momentum. Larger build plates are subject to more warpage and longer warm up times to dimensionally stabilize. Higher energy costs.

A new grip and buttstock with recoil pad for my shotgun. ASA and TPU.

    Not your usual Mini-Split install

The whole house and shop are powered by a hybrid inverter, part of the home's solar power system, that includes surge protection on both its inputs and outputs. I hope that will be sufficient.

    There, fixed it for ya.

Just made this weapon light mount for my VR80 shotgun. Yeah, I know you can easily buy cheap mounts, but I already had the flashlight, so... Grabcad files: https://grabcad.com/library/picatinny-mount-28mm-flashlight-holder-1

Mini split condenser distance from wall

An older install. A new install in progress. Just placed this new concrete pad, 24” x 40”, 6in away from the wall and a Mr Cool 24K condenser will go right in the middle of that for a 12in wall spacing. About 2 cubic feet of sacrete.

Mini split condenser distance from wall

I think 12in is fine for a ground mounted unit. That’s what I’ve used before and am going with again on a current intallation in progress. The fans on these don’t spin that fast so not high velocity. The wall facing side should be the suction side so any wind pressure will probably reflect off...

    Not your usual Mini-Split install

Also on the reliabilty topic, I just found that my Yellow Jacket vacuum pump has broken. Only used it a few times. Turns out that these have a plastic motor to pump coupling that is prone to breaking. I guess just time has degraded the plastic and it let go. Got a new metal coupling for a few...

    Not your usual Mini-Split install

Long term reliabilty update: Well the ceiling cassette unit finally failed. Actually this happened a couple months ago, but I was inspired to update this here now because I’m in the midst of installing another split system unit for the house, more on that later… So the Friedrich system began...

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT The Time Machine Garage - 32x24 with loft

Yep, that's an EG4 wallmount 280Ah x 48V lithium iron phosphate battery. About 14kWh capacity, but I limit the daily discharge to 50% to leave a reserve in case the grid goes down after dark.

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT The Time Machine Garage - 32x24 with loft

A new solar electric system was installed end of last October and has been online for 11 months now. There are thirty three panels at 420W each for a total peak output of 14KW. A 15KW hybrid inverter went in the small garage. This powers the whole compound, using solar, battery or grid...

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT The Time Machine Garage - 32x24 with loft

Recently added this little upgrade in the loft above the garage. This is on the plumbing wall opposite the bathroom sink so it was an easy tie in for the sink to the existing drain and water supplys already in the wall. Daughter and son-in-law used it for a temporary apartment for a few months...
