The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

I assume these are very common in the U.S. Picked this up recently from the U.K. I'm guessing 1970's, early 1980's perhaps. Gerry

    Antique Screwdriver Stumper: Hobson's?

It seems like there might be a second head trapped under the ferrule - I wonder if this could be a home made tool? Gerry

    Garringtons tools (made in england)

I believe GPO does indeed stand for General Post Office and it seems to appear on a variety of tools in the UK. I know very little about the Red or Blue Diamond series, but my impression is that they date to the 1960's and were perhaps produced through the 1970's. I really like the short Wren...

Late 1940's Union (Craftsman) Machinist Chest

Great find and a very nice design. The hinges themselves are a work of art! I really applaud sensible preservation as opposed to renovation. Gerry

Moore & Wright "Scrutite" Heavy Duty Screwdriver

The hex is a nice snug 7/16ths Whit., which I believe is just .007" larger than a 13/16ths AF. Gerry

Moore & Wright "Scrutite" Heavy Duty Screwdriver

This is my M&W "Scrutite". It's 11" overall and quite heavy. It shows up in my 1955 cat. and probably later. From the description in my 1939 cat., it looks like it may have just been introduced then or soon before. It's a nice screwdriver. Gerry

    The Ratchet Collection Thread

My guess would be Britool. Mine is flimsy, with the minimum of rivets, but I have seen them with four rivets in the head although not in that exact placement. Gerry

Wood cabinets for tool, parts or nuts and bolts or even your socks. please show them

The 1007 Moore & Wright chest is listed in 1939 too. Gerry

Perhaps these images from the 1937 UK edition of the Starrett catalog might be of interest to someone. Gerry

    Show off your DOE's!

Thanks all for the great information. I imagine a mild acid etch of the substrate might also help. Gerry

    Show off your DOE's!

They do look very nice. Is that baked oil a durable finish? I'd be curious to see if there's a simple, safe way to japan black or parkerize in the home workshop with readily available chemicals. Gerry
