    Bosch 18v batteries

I've always used the knockoffs, (except if I buy a kit instead of the bare tool). I can get 4 Makita-esque Li-Ion batteries in 4.0Ah for about $60 off ebay. I'm sure I'll get burned eventually, but I haven't yet. For 1/4 the price, if the batteries don't run the tool quite as long, that's ok...

    Fuel oil tank leak

Similar experience. Last Friday I got 210 gallons delivered. The leak started soon after. I bought a magnetic patch from rectorseal. I like to gripe about Amazon, but in this case Amazon prime saved my backside and got the patch to me in about 4 hours. The patch is two bar magnets that...

    Fuel oil tank leak

Finishing the story is on my list of things to do today.

    Snow BLOWER or THROWER?

I call everything a snowblower. I don't recall seeing many people using a single stage, but then again, I'm usually busy clearing my own driveway to take count of single stage versus dual stage. I agree with others, it's likely a regional thing. BTW String trimmer, weed whacker or weed eater?:p

Mini pruning chainsaws, are they safe?

I need a better pruning blade for my little Sawzall (sub compact 18V Makita XRJO7) . I got a pruning blade a few years back that looked like a classic bow saw blade for cutting a Christmas tree and found it was terrible. I thought for a second and realized that the stroke length of a bow saw is...

    Cordless impact drivers?

I think the best way to describe what an impact driver is used for is to try and drive some 3 inch deck screws with a normal drill. After you get good and frustrated, grab an impact driver and try the same thing, then you'll have an answer.

55 year old house, do I need to replace anything?

I was going to say something about the windows in a 50 year old house, but a beach house that gets used a few weeks in summer......not really an issue.

    Replacement rubber for tools

Depends on the sander. For something common like a Porter-Cable 330 finishing sander you can get no-name replacements on ebay. Or you can go to the company website to see if they have OEM available.

    Anti-seize on Lug Studs?

I use a light coat of anti-seize on the threads and also on the face of brake rotors. I had to replace three lug studs on a Chevy S-10 after the nuts had rusted on. The S-10 had those threaded plastic covers for their open lug nuts, which really didn't stop the rust, just hid it so you...

    Long distance powerline

I'm going with "would an inverter be tolerant of low voltage on the feedline" as the question. EDIT: I think by the time you get a battery bank, inverter and low amperage line strung from your house you won't save any money over stringing a high amperage line off your house. Don't know if...

Radiant heat in semi gutted house, what way should I go?

I think it might be better to go with something like warmboard, where the aluminum part is on top of the subfloor, rather than have to work it's way though the entire floor. The knock on staple up systems is some of the plates make popping noises as they heat. The temp difference between...

    Solar Question

Hmm....haven't done this before, but sure I'll play for a bit. I guess you should start with how many watts you need for the lights. 4 of those LED shop lights? They should be around 38~42 Watts each, so lets say 170 Watts and drag it up to 200W for a nice round number and some other loses...

Is it me or is this a bit misleading?

No, you can't get something for nothing. nice try Your panel is already 240V (at 50 amps). Or you could think of it as 2 lines of 120V, (50 amps + 50 amps). Maybe think of the transformer out on the street.......2 hot lines with a center tapped ground....

    Linkable LED's ?

As others have already said, linkable usually means there is a female connector on one end so you can easily link a bunch of them together. $20 for each is a pretty good deal, too bad you're not closer, the stores here have linkable Maxlight brand 4' long 4100 lumen LED 40W shop lights for $15...

Notice left at my shop from Xcel Energy

Did a quick look on the old interweb thingy, consumeraffairs.com rates Xcel energy lower than whaleshi......well, you get the idea. https://www.consumeraffairs.com/utilities/xcel.html It looks like xcel is in several States (and probably quite adept at greasing the palms of the people who are...
