    Electrical - Receptacles

LOL - that might be the safest way. If a basement flooded, the ground would be second to be hit by rising water. If an object fell on a partially detached plug, it would probably break a prong or pull the plug out of the wall before connecting to the other prong (in which case it would hit the...

How do you protect your tool box?!?!?!

Line-X or some roll-on bed liner, perhaps? It might actually look sorta neat..

Check out this home made all-wood car lift!

The most clever part of the wooden ramp design is that it's expandable. You could probably build a lever made out of a 4x4 fulcrum, then use a 2x4 as a pry bar to lift the car off the stand. Once lifted, simply place a 6x6 stood upright (cut to appropriate height) (acting as a jackstand) to...

Header size for a 16' eaveside door

In addition to what others have said, remember that inspection essentially enforces the minimums. Your garage would pass with a gravel floor, but is that what you want? That said, it should be fine, just ask the framer what warranty he provides given that he deviated from the engineered plans...

    Epoxy's Durability?

This may be a bit naive, but after you coat the floor - wouldn't it be fairly easy to maintain maybe once a year (or every other) by just rolling some new epoxy only on the beat up portion of the floor? (followed by sprinkles and clear, if your floor has those). You might be able to get by...

Direct Tv Satelite in Shop From House

Playing around the other day, I found Multi-Room Viewing (MRV) on my HD DVR from DirecTV. It lets you view content from one of your DVRs from another. You can also delete content. Though not available on the older, SD type boxes - this might be a really neat feature for you to avoid worrying...

You can still buy them .. here's one on Ebay (a little pricey, but I guess they're getting harder to find). http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Gas-can-5-gal-plastic-/160430905659?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_100&hash=item255a6d593b

Garage floor epoxy ... on wood stairs?

I have what might be a silly question. The lead in: I have an unfinished basement, with a mostly finished stairwell going down into it. I've finished all the drywall and it's ready for paint - but the stairs are still the run of the mill pre-fab builder stairs. They have a landing half way...

    Pics of Jay Leno's garage

I'm a bit confused by some of these posts. I don't think Jay is trying to be better than anyone else, or out to out-do, or just spend money on cars for whatever reason, other than the fact that he likes cars. He doesn't buy cars as an investment - he buys cars that have a story behind them...

    Building too seriously

I don't post much, but I read a lot of the threads here. The start of this one seemed very.. odd. Antagonistic really. From everything I've seen here, it looks like those with the money to put into to bringing modern technology, old school charm/design, or eco-friendly implementations, do...

Finally got the garage done today...

Wow - awesome garage. I'm a long-time lurker here - just had to respond because we're also in a Dan Ryan house but over in Lovettsville in the Sequioa model (just a bit up 340 from you) (also looks like they put a lot of upgraded fixtures in your house!). We also went with a gray paint scheme...
