Spill proof gas can.

Mowed the grass tonight. Does anyone actually like the new spill proof gas cans? Maybe I'm not smart enough to figure it out but I spill gas at least 80% of the time. I'm sure that I spilled less with my old one. I wish I would have bought a dozen of the old ones before they were outlawed. Does anybody have any ideas to make a gas can spout that fits on the spillproof. I've played around with the idea but never came up with anything good.

Wow, I usually use Scribner Plastics 5-gallon cans, but looks like they can't make them anymore in RED....

Found this on PegasusAutoRacing.com (a great racing resource!)

"Note: On February 12, 2006, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) enacted the following regulation for "Portable Fuel Containers" that also affects the labeling requirements for Utility Jugs:

2467.1 (a) (12) "Portable Fuel Container" means any container or vessel with a nominal capacity of ten gallons or less intended for reuse that is designed, used, sold, advertised, or offered for sale for receiving, transporting, storing, and dispensing fuel or kerosene. Portable fuel containers do not include containers or vessels permanently embossed or permanently labeled. with language indicating said containers or vessels are solely intended for use with non-fuel or non-kerosene products.

In order to comply with this new regulation, utility jug manufacturers must now state a purpose for the product. These jugs will be labeled as stated in 49 Code of Federal Regulations Section 172.407(a). This jug is not to be used as a portable fuel container in states that require spill-proof systems or have spill-proof system regulations."

They weren't outlawed unless you're in commiefornia. Unfortunately commiefornia has infected the entire nation's gas can supply.

I live in Ohio & it's all you can buy here.
Because commiefornia infected your gas can supply and all the old ones died. :lol_hitti It's hard to find anything good here too, but, they aren't illegal.

Look for a standard metal jerry can. I doubt they are illegal anywhere besides commiefornia.

A local family here sued Blitz USA when they 10 year old played with fire and got burnt.

I have never cared for the 5 gal cans.
They are just too heavy and clumsy.
I use the 2.5 gal ones.
For the lawn mowers I even use multiple one quart oil cans.

If you must go with the big ones, think about getting one of the boat fuel lines with the primer bulb in them.
They make real good siphion hoses.

I had to buy a new gas can and had to buy one of these. I really don't mind them. I slightly modified mine. It works really well. However, I don't trust the seal as much as much as a screw-on top, especially for fumes. I wouldn't keep one hanging around the garage.

I was in the garage tonight & saw that darned gas can sitting there. I took the "no spill" nozzle off & yanked it apart. Guess what, under all the [censored] is what resembles an old style spout. It was a little short so I found a piece of rubber hose & pressed it on. Looks like it should work perfectly. I should send the leftover parts to whatever government agency decided that they were a good idea.

I hate the new cans. They take for ever to empty out. I just take the unless spout off, and fill through a funnel.

Another good reason to stop at garage sales and to get on a list of local estate sales. Not only can you find good gas cans you can also stumble into good banned chemicals, too.

I bought one here a few years ago. It was all you could buy. I spilled gas out of it so many times early on, and had gas blow in my face a bunch of times too.. Absolutely hated the thing.

Now that I've gotten used to it, I can actually say that I like it. I spill less gas than with the old cans. You don't have to worry about it overflowing. The nozzle can be stiff to open and close, just gotta make sure its closed before you pull the nozzle out.

And don't let it set out in the sun too long. If you do - then gently unscrew the cap to slowly let it vent - or put it back in your garage, and it'll shrink back down overnight.

So basically, I'm fine with it. Just gotta get used to it. I gave away a bunch of the old ones when clearing out my shed..Kept a couple, but wish I had kept more of them - since now they're apparently collectors items lol

I was at the local Shell station tonight and they had two of the old style gas cans sitting in the corner next to two of the new style so I bought the old ones. I assume that some of the small mom and pop type hardware stores might have new old stock still. If you guys need to get a new gas can.

I end up sloshing gas all over when trying to fill weed wackers and mowers...and forget about filling up a car...I'm thinking about popping a hole in one and sticking in a plastic diff breather.... couldn't **** any more than they do now.

I bought three of the old style gallon cans at my local hardware store...I like them for chain saw gas. Now I have them stashed on a high shelf...

I have one cheap can that for some reason causes the chain saw to miss...
