Best tips for not getting burned by contractors

When I built my home, I wrote an addendum to the contract that says the GC is responsible for the subs and the quality of their work (paraphrasing). And that in the event of a dispute that goes to arbitration or court, the loser pays the legal fees of the winner. Lots of owners don't follow...

    Vintage Craftsman pump rebuild...

I am near the Canadian border. Nearest shop I found was about 150 miles away. My cabin is even more remote. When I get back there I will pull the pump out and get better photos. It is similar to that one, but not the same.

    Vintage Craftsman pump rebuild...

It is made by A.O. Smith. I was unable to find any shops local to me that do this type of work.

    Vintage Craftsman pump rebuild...

There are no leaks. This is probably the first time I have come up empty in an internet search. No parts or diagrams. Not even a picture of a similar pump. If anyone documented a rebuild of one of these, it would be a Garage Journal member.

    Vintage Craftsman pump rebuild...

We have been using this Craftsman pump to pump water from a lake to a garden for 50+ years. It can now only push the water about halfway up the hill, maybe 300-400 feet. The motor is smooth and quiet and seems very strong. I am guessing the pump/impeller is worn. Does anyone know where to...

    Does your daylight drain freeze?

For those of you in the cold climates with daylight floor drains, does it ever freeze up or is it not an issue?

    Solution for epoxy floor problem?

My garage was just professionally epoxied. Looked great but was slightly tacky after 5 days. Contractor called the product rep who said to put a clear layer of epoxy on top. That was done. Seemed to harden up properly. After a 7 day cure, I parked on it and the next day, when I pulled out...

    Expansion joint filler with RockSolid

OK, can you tell me the name of some other products that are not mail order only? Is it typically ground flat? I was just going to scrape the excess off with a putty knife before it hardens.

    Expansion joint filler with RockSolid

Anybody use anything besides the $60/tube Polyflex 93 with the Rocksolid garage floor coating? How about a crack filler for hairline cracks that works with Rocksolid? Thanks!!

    Rocksolid UV resistance

Thank you for the info. I'm finding that none of the local rental places and home improvement stores have a grinder available. Most of the sealer is already worn off. Would the muriatic acid do an adequate job? How much better is a grind vs etch in this situation?

    Rocksolid UV resistance

It looks like the Rocksolid kit does not stand up to UV exposure. What do you use on the part of the slab that is outside the garage door-usually 6-12 inches is exposed? Does the Rocksolid Clear coat have anti-UV properties? What about using Rocksolid Concrete Coating on that part...

    Garage floor treatment....

That looks like nice stuff but I'm leaning towards Rock Solid because it seems to be reasonable durable and I can knock it out this weekend. If I go that route, I will grind the floor. The bevel in front of the overhead doors has a broom finish. Does this need to be ground smooth or can I...

    Garage floor treatment....

I can grind or etch if need be. I do need something that won't be too slippery when the tires have snow on them. What do you suggest?
