    Real noga deburring tool?

I really like my Shaviv deburring tools. If you have trouble getting the Noga, maybe take a look at them...

    Storing and using acteone

The chlorine compounds emitted by standard brake cleaner when burned are extremely toxic, so it's good that you are concerned. There is a non-chlorinated version of brake cleaner, though, that you can buy off the shelf at most places that sell it. If you get the non-chlorinated version, no...

Block Garage Needs a Real Heater

If you want the cleanest air with no moisture problems and such, no fumes, and no oxygen depletion, I would suggest a sealed combustion propane heater. These units also do not create negative pressure in the building, so they work more efficiently. You will have to get your propane filled up...

    Garage Door Insulation

I certainly considered leaving the fiberglass. In the end, though, the extra weight was not worth it to me, just for appearance. Mine is just a home shop, used mostly for metal fabrication and car repairs. If it was a business, I might have considered the extra weight worth it, for appearance...

    Garage Door Insulation

I insulated the inside of my roll-up doors with foam panels that I got for free. There is an insulated door manufacturer locally here that often has rejects pulled from the line. Rather than paying to have these hauled off, they palletize them and give them away for free to any taker. We got a...

    Ball Valve Disassembly

We work on valves for large oceangoing vessels. It's not really anything mysterious. It's fairly standard work in the industry. Disassembly and reassembly is just basic wrench-turning. The honing and seats are fairly standard machining procedures. The honing is done on a spherical hone. We take...

    Ball Valve Disassembly

Not worth trying to disassemble. They use threadlocker on them. They don't want you messing with them, because the stack height in there with the seats is super critical, and easy to mess up. I work in a shop that rebuilds larger ball valves all the time (3" to 12" balls). We hone and teflon...

    Vehicle to Transport Lift

When I picked up my 2-post, the lift was packed so that it was an "end pick" by the forklift. They came right out of the bay and put in on the trailer. If yours is packed that way, you could use the Home Depot truck and put some blocks on the back. As long as the tops of the blocks are higher...

    Which fluke?

I have a Fluke 23 that I've owned for almost 30 years. Works well for almost all of the above. No backlight, no capacitance, though.

sediment trap on short LPG line

I've had grit in the lines before, and it caused my regulator to develop a "creep" problem. That is easily dealt with at the regulator, but I would not want to have that at the heater valve. That is less easily dealt with. I put a tee trap in mine. I have a Modine PTC-65 running off of two 40...

Duckface........you seem to really like paint

We are a heavy industrial shop here. We usually use Sherwin-Williams Armorseal 8100 on our floors. We don't use it because it's the best, we use it because it's relatively cheap. We repaint the floors about every 4 or 5 years in here anyway. It holds up great in areas of regular foot traffic...

Picked up a NIB HF carbide tool grinder

I haven't bought diamond wheels from Shars, but I've bought endmills from them, and I bought a 4-jaw chuck from them once. I have been satisfied with all of those purchases. The chuck was actually of surprisingly high quality for an amazing price.

    Furnace ship date

I ordered mine from H-Mac systems. They were great to work with. They are a drop shipper, so it's up to the manufacturer, but they got mine to me in a reasonable time. (It's a Modine PTC-65, set up for propane).
