    44 Bikes Frame Shop

Hat's off sir. I'm not a bicyclist but if I was a member of the idle rich instead of just idle I'd have one of your bikes in my shop just to admire. (I hope you wouldn't sell it to me, they obviously deserve to be ridden!)

Another voice to chime in and say how fabulous this thread is and the work you're doing. Fantastic.

My new shop, your ideas wanted...

The lathe is in good working order but I don't have an overhead lineshaft, so it's there as elder statesman (built in 1885). Drill press is awesome--I love old Delta tools, this one is from the mid-fifties. Thought about sealing the pad, but I don't get any moisture through it, and it has so...

It's relatively stable, but I'm with you...as soon as I get it undercoated and the suspension on, it's going off the dolly.

I forgot to mention, if anyone cares, that the top on the steel bench is 3/4" ply with the 1/4" steel on top, the ply bench next to it has a 1" top (two 1/2" sheets glued together). The lower shelves are all 1/2" ply. The back bench has 3/4" ply as a top. It's all pretty sturdy. About 42 8'-2x4...

New benches Well, I finally got my new benches done. A couple days work and "100 bucks, I think" turned into a couple weeks of spare time and almost $800. Ouch. Above is my main work area. The wood for the benches, 16' on this wall, free-standing, and 18' on the back wall, attached, was...

Some minor progress to report. I know y'all have been waiting. ;) This was my shop as of a few weeks ago. Some art up, not much else had changed...other than my project is back from the bodyshop. Only was there for 10 years (not kidding!). But my temporary benches and lack of storage on this...

    Should I seal or not?

In my pole-building shop, I have two sides; one I finished last year, dry-walled and insulated, and lightly heated, the other is insulated with the R3 fabric stuff which they use in pole buildings to keep it from raining inside but otherwise as it was built. The finished side stays about about...

    Scientific Oven not so Scien-terrific

Thanks for the ideas. I'll throw an ohmmeter on it next time I get a chance, just to see. Far as I can tell, there is a typical "electric range" type element inside the box. I was imagining that what clicks in after a minute or so (and trips the outlet) is some sort of switch/relay that turns...

    Scientific Oven not so Scien-terrific

I picked up a smallish Thermo scientific oven from CL ages ago to bake enamel-painted parts in...the max 200-degree temp is perfect for that and it doesn't take up a ton of space. My problem is this: I finally set it on the bench and plugged it in the other day, and it trips my GFCI outlet...

    Workshop Dehumidifier

The 50 pint unit seems to have died on me. I think it is seriously undersized for my shop, but the short service life is a bummer. Costco will be getting it back. Not sure what to do, now. If I could even achieve 50% I'd be ecstatic, but when it's 100% outside (rain) it's at least 75% inside on...

My new shop, your ideas wanted...

I'm trying the old plastic-taped-to-the-floor test to see if the slab (which has been there for ten years) is the source, or if it's just a leaky building. This summer I'll be going around the outside with a caulk gun to make sure the building is as sealed as I can get it. Having this side...

My new shop, your ideas wanted...

Here's where I am today: It doesn't seem like much progress, but I can't tell you how glad I am to be done with paint-rollers-on-a-stick (eight gallons of paint, after four of primer). The shop will not normally be this full of wheeled stuff, but the storage side is a total disaster right...

    Workshop Dehumidifier

I'm running a 50 pint unit in my "cold" side (23 x 35) and it got the humidity down from 85% to 70%, but it's not making any progress beyond that. My warm side, same size, seems to stay around 60% with no conditioning. Remember that a dehumidifier is essentially a small fridge, so I'm not sure...

Current 2 car apartment garage and new 4 car house garage (ideas/suggestions please)

Congratulations! I've recently had my fortunes change like yours, and I'm pretty excited about it, too. I would not remove the wall between the bays. If you keep the office, I would make the center my workshop and the right becomes storage and a possible painting area if you can see yourself...
