Re: Feed Stop Nut, 5/8-12 Acme Threads You're welcome FrankLee, and thanks for being the guinea pig to see if the o.d. would clear!

They are available as replacement parts as arbor nuts for some table saws (powermatic in particular) but they are ungodly expensive for a single nut, anywhere from $15 to $25 before tax and shipping:scared:

Re: The Classic Craftsman 100/150 Drill Press I was on the other end of one of those. Had a guy show up to buy one of my refurbs in a tiny little bmw coupe. He was absolutely against any disassembly to make it fit in his trunk. Took a lot of maneuvering but we eventually got it in there. Thank...

Well I'm glad it's not just me. I got emails saying there were new posts but when I went to view them they weren't there. Thought maybe I was just having browser not-refreshing issues.

Yes, please. I have never seen a base with a shoulder. I wonder if it was an owner modification?

Re: The Classic Craftsman 100/150 Drill Press Some of that dust probably got between the contacts of the centrifugal switch. Try polishing them up with some 600 grit paper and give it a go.

Yeah, only a couple of reasons that I can think of. One, spindle was bent and he took it off to be able to straighten it with a press. Two, he mangled it trying to remove a stubborn chuck (seen this on several dp's). xlj1000, make sure there are no burrs on the spindle around the hole for the...

Re: The Classic Craftsman 100/150 Drill Press Dang FrankLee, you have Craftsman DP radar! Even after you pointed it out I had to look at those pictures 4 times before I spied that thing hidden back there.

I had one of those back in the early 70's. The wire brush and sanding drum worked very well but the rpm's were too low for the little stones and burrs to be very effective.

Yeah, it's shortcoming on most drill presses. Steel quill sliding up and down through a cast iron bore. If it gets used a lot and isn't kept well lubed the wear can get pretty sloppy. If you are used to working with a milling machine, a drill press will always seem like it's flopping all over...

    Craftsman Drill Press

Re: The Classic Craftsman 100/150 Drill Press There was one listed on eBay a couple of years ago for $250.00 (yes just the cover!) Don't know if it ever actually sold for that. That was the only one I have ever seen for sale.

Phil, while personally I think a magnetic starter is kind of overkill for a drill press, there is no sense in reinventing the wheel if that is the way you want to go. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IEM2DSM/?tag=atomicindus08-20

To me this is also the way to go. This is the one I use: https://temcoindustrial.com/temco-cn0357-foot-switch-1qty.html It is very well made (U.S.A.) and can also be purchased through Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G8NBBTQ/?tag=atomicindus08-20 For about $15 less they also have the same...

Yeah, he retro'd a retro drill press! It looks like the first attempt was to paint the banding on.
