Tool chest review - Sears, Tractor Supply, Lowes, Home Depot, Harbor Freight

I saw one yesterday, and it is pretty, but very light for a box that size -- filled with tools, the weight would destroy that box.

Tool chest review - Sears, Tractor Supply, Lowes, Home Depot, Harbor Freight

I am having to add another cabinet this year, so I revisited this review. This review was more professional than my findings, but pretty much spot on. I even passed up a near-new Matco box on Sunday because the 44" from Harbor Freight is such a great deal -- my current coupon is $379.

    I'm tired of 9mm tools

One thing that I have noticed is that the German DIN fasteners and the Japanese JIS standard fasteners seem to follow certain rules -- like you do not see a lot of 20mm fasteners on German cars, and 9mm is very odd on Japanese cars. Hence, sockets sets from those countries usually delete...

How buying Snap On may actually cheaper than Harbor Freight

I like the way you think, but I have always had a less complicated way of analyzing the cost of tools issue: how much value did YOU get from the use of the tool? If your $50 widget from Snap On allowed you to save $400 in labor, then that is what it is worth to you.

    Show Us Your Tiniest Ratchets!

I recently bought the entire 1/4" set of the Z-eal tools. I already had the 3/8 and 1/2 sets, but the 1/4 ratchet and sockets seemed to be even more reduced in size than their 3/8 and 1/2 counterparts. I would not use a 4-foot muffler pipe to torque down on a Z-eal socket or ratchet, but for use...

    Spinner handles

You are correct, sir -- up under the dash is where these tools rule. Changed out a blower motor under the dash of a GMC Colorado last week, and nothing but a nut spinner (or whatever these things are called) would work. One thing to make it even "gooder": get a flexible extension like I did, or...

Good tools to buy at Sears?

I was in Sears, yesterday, and their tool section is about as Chinese-made now as a boat load of little plastic toys. And of course Sears has marked them up about 42,000 percent, making the tool isle a Frankensteinien cross between Harbor Freight and Snap-On. They do, however, carry Knipex for...

the Nepros brand hand tool thread

I live down near New Orleans, and rust is a major issue here. I keep my tools in an airconditioned spare room that is adjacent to my shop. Otherwise, the humidity and unpredictable rains would rust my tools to bits. What I like to do is keep an Ikea cart that I can roll out there from my big box...

    The SK X-Frame Ratcheting Wrench

I really like the skeletonized look, but was totally unaware that SK still makes tools in the USA!? I thought that was another lost cause, but that being said, I will have to look into these new wrenches -- my set of Armstrong ratcheting wrenches are missing more tools than are left.

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Restored 1930's Auto Shop

Jeeze, Louise..... I have been looking at similar buildings in my area. I like the idea of preserving the look of past, but upgrading everything for modern safety and energy efficiency. That shop is so incredible that I could never come close, but wouldn't it be fun to try! The lift rebuild is...

Just try naming any company "Straight" in this political climate, and you would probably get prosecuted for a hate crime!

    1st Level Chrome Purchase!

Those "Attack" drivers look really sweet! I have been buying Ko-ken, lately, for my business, but have not yet tried anything but plain sockets and ratchets. I like the name, too: "Attack Driver". My father is no longer around, but I am not so sure he would appreciate that name after serving on...

    Keeping the heat out.

I used to do rentals down towards New Orleans, and I ALWAYS painted the doors white. It definitely cools the doors down. My own house here has 3 sets of double exterior doors and three regular doors, and all of them are bright white!

Why you don't let friends borrow tools

All of the postings on this thread remind me of too many bad memories. My friends mostly know better than to borrow my expensive tools. But my wife's male friends from work and university are moochers. The worst ones are the ones with 2 and 3 expensive degrees, good jobs, new cars, and fancy...

    Small Metal Boxes - Manufacturer/Source?

I believe what you are looking for are still made by a Japanese firm called Toyo . I have seen them on several sites, in more than one size, but I do not have any links handy at this time. I believe, though, that the Museum of Modern Art sells Toyo through their online gift shop (they ain't...
