    Passing wiring through a corner

It's the whole "subject to physical damage" thing, which in its self is subjective! It is left up to the AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction, in other words "electrical inspector") to make that call. If they decide that the wiring may be subject to physical abuse on the bottom of the joists...

    Passing wiring through a corner

It takes a little bit of skill to do it quick, but it rarely takes me more than a few seconds to get it through there. (quicker than stripping and fishing for it when you do it for a living):) (By the way the screwdriver trick is used at the hole it's coming out of, you just bend the wire away...

    Passing wiring through a corner

Fishing the wire in the corner is not that hard, put a bend on the end of the wire, push it through the first stud and try to hit the hole on the other side, you probably will not get it to go all the way through the second stud due to the right angle, but with a long narrow tip screwdriver, you...

    GFCI AFCI needed or not

Unless the manufacture says otherwise, a smoke detector can be on GFCI, it's just that smokes are in rooms that are required to have AFCI protection, if they are interconnected they may extend into rooms that do not require AFCI, but because they are in rooms that do require it, the entire...

Anyone using used oil/waste oil furnace or area heater?

I thought of doing that, went and loaded up a trailer load of sawdust that sit under one of my sheds for about two years, never got around to doing, thought of making a ram that would compact it in a tube to make the logs. Another project that never got done!

Who Can Figure Out What's Wrong With This Picture

I went out to a house a couple of months ago where they did a kitchen remodel, and the new downdraft cooktop would not work. The remodeler had spliced the hot to the ground wire from the top, the neutral wire to the other hot, and the hots to the ground and neutral from the panel. Luckily for...

Who Can Figure Out What's Wrong With This Picture

You said it was a range, not a wall oven, if that is the case the wire would be #10 or #12. Sounds like the previous installation was wrong too. Wall ovens are always hardwired. The whip is factory, they use friction tape at the end. (thats what you seen that looks like tape under the red devil)

Those are usually direct wired to a j-box too.

A drop in? Must be a small one, they usually have #8 stranded on them with a #10 solid ground.

Let me guess, it's the factory cable from a cooktop that was installed where a range used to be, so they put the plug on the end of it to plug into the old range receptacle. Nice work!

Calling MRB: Weird Current on Ground

Since the problem started when the new service was installed, it more than likely is a neutral issue, I wired a new house years ago and had the owner call up and tell me he was having weird lighting problems going on, long story short the power company had a loose neutral on their end, they...

They are already making the wind turbines cheaper, the US gov had to change their regs so only american turbines could be used on the gov funded wind farms.

Rinnai water heaters and tankless in general

I had the same experience with my Bosch, it has the automatic adjustable flame, but would not keep up with the pressure changes. My boss has the Rinnai's at two of his houses, one in the Dominican Republic, where they don't believe in hot water (10 gal tank type for two showers), and another in...

Wait till you find out what their giving the owners of the commercial EV charging stations and the free power their giving to the EV owners! If the space that the water heater is in is un-conditioned your fine, but if it is in a closet in a living area, the heat is collected from the...

Cool! With all of the new electric car chargers coming out, we will need every Killowatt! The new fast chargers will recharge a car in 20-30 minutes, but they draw a heck of a lot power.
