I Bought a Re-Branded Snap-On (or other Truck) Tool Thread

I offer up these submissions: http://matcotools.com/Catalog/toolcatalog.jsp?cattype=T&cat=3573&page=2&#63611 http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?P65=&tool=all&item_ID=80242&group_ID=1626&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog These two wrenches are IDENTICAL. No big deal, with the exception...

    Steel Recipes/Grades

So this is not 100% tool related, but I think it fits here pretty well. Obviously there are different grades of steel, different types of steel, and of course casting methods, forgings, heat treatings. We all get that, but, how would you guys say steel varies from country to country? My thought...

    Gray Pneumatic

Every person I know that has them loves them. Best value in impact tools in my opinion. I'd stay away from their swivels, but their regular sockets are just great.

    Titanium $$HOLY COW!$$ tools

Wow, I had no idea of this. I've never been in the same room as an MRI, but this pretty much sums it up. I keep having this image of X-Men movies come to my mind. Sounds to me like I need to own one of these MRI machines for some, um, constructive (destructive) downtime.

    Titanium $$HOLY COW!$$ tools

From what I understand (!), Ti is a superior metal for spring use. It can flex substantially without fatigue.

    Titanium $$HOLY COW!$$ tools

Maybe I'll sound stupid here, but what about an MRI requires the use of a titanium tool? And while we all care about close tolerances and strength, these are, after all, just machines. Very expensive machines with very important jobs, but what about them calls for $1,100 ratchets? Edited to...

Are Matco & Craftsman the same?

I feel this way too, about the CORE line - which isn't much more than Wrenches, Sockets, and Ratchets. However, I bought that stuff years ago. I now care about things like wheel hub pullers, large diameter taps and dies, the stuff you acquire after being in the business for 10+ years. The real...

    Sociology of Ratcheteers

Very nice anthropology. You might want to add that several of the tribes listed are indigenous the area of KDonia, which is in the region of Danahassee.

    Trisquare torx bits ?

Sure - don't buy them unless you work on german cars. At least for now anyway. My $400 investment just stares at me saying "you used to work on German cars", but they haven't been off their rail in over a year.

Any Ratchet Torque Comparisons Out There?

Move that chain to the end of the ratchet handle and lets see what happens. I remember an old Hot Rod , around the late 90's, where they did a comparison of ratchets. It involved them measuring smoothness of clicks, degrees of swing, the "cheater pipe" test, and functionality test. I've looked...

    $28k box?

I have never understood the idea of just selling all the tools as one package, and who in the hell would buy it without knowing EXACTLY what all is in the box? And, do these 10k+ "tool box full of tools" packages that people sell EVER get bought? We had a guy at work decide he wanted out of the...

Who makes Blue Point gear wrenches ?

Anyone have an idea or suspicion of who makes the Bluepoint regular wrenches? They have the rough-cast feel, like a Hazet wrench, I haven't seen another Tiawan/PRC wrench like them.

    $28k box?

I think it is because it says "complete with tools".
