    Die grinder supplies

3M cubitron Rolocs are the best hands down. They last the longest out of any abrasive disc I’ve used, but they’re costly!

    Diesel vs. gas tractor?

My folks had a Simplicity Legacy they bought new in 2003. It came with the bucket and belly mower. I believe it has the 25hp Kohler gas engine in it. Its was a mediocre mowing tractor, but they had 5 acres to mow and it took forever. We used it for snow removal on their 3 car garage driveway...

    Massive window job

Re: Massive window jog I agree with Bert here. Replacement windows will never have the same presents as traditional style window. Shadow lines will not be the same with the muttons on the glazed panels. Wood framed windows can be repaired and have hundreds of years of service. New double hung...

    Best Power Tool Brands

Buy what you can afford that is quality built. I've got tools from Milwaukee, Dewalt, Bosch, Festool, Snap-On, Craftsman, etc. I'm looking at quality of construction, not brand loyalty.

Removing barn paint from stone foundation

I wouldn't sandblast the stone as it might change the apperance of it drastically. Jasco makes a paint and epoxy stripper that work very well. I use it to remove botched up powder coating that I've done. Amazon carries it liquid form.

    Milter saw recommendations

I've got the Bosch dual compound miter saw with the articulating arm. It's alright, I had the Dewalt dual compound miter saw and to be honest, I liked it better than this one. Both are excellent machines, but i felt I could sneak up on cuts easier with Dewalts blade guide, seemed more accurate.

My First Powermatic - DP 1150A

I'd get a VFD setup for the three phase motor thats on the press and run that. That's what I have on my 1150A and it's great! Speed adjustment, forward and reversing capability is really handy. If you're looking for replacement parts, go to owwm.org and post a wanted add in their for sale...

    Miter Saw Stands

I just bought the Ridgid MSUV cart here a couple weeks ago for my Bosch 12" dual compound miter saw. It's a nice cart that makes moving the saw around pretty easy. I had the same setup as you before and really like this setup. I haven't moved it in and out of a truck but if the whole unit...

    LP FlameBlock osb?

We have some of it at work. It really doesn't look to much different from regular OSB. The stuff we have has a coating on it, so I would guess it would not absorb as much paint when you go to finish it. If it's cheap I'd say go for it.

    Losing a generation of Tradesmen?

When I was in high school(I'm 35) we had tons of shop classes and they all were full. the local area schools still have the same classes. My friends and I all went into the trades after getting out of high school. We all started pretty early in the trades, but once I was in I saw a steady...

    Stainless vs zinc hardware

Agreed. I was putting in swing gates at work that had SS hardware and just with hand tools I had a couple gaul. We use neolube(graphite and alcohol mix) on stainless hardware.

Metal roof install. Is this acceptable?

South Central Illinois, and western Illinois has Amish communities that are prominent. Mennonites are also running around throwing up hog confinements here around the rural Quad City area.

    Are air tools obsolete?

Me personally I like air tools, and have had air impacts for over 20 years now. Battery operated stuff is fine and will do the job for most anything. But I have sandblasting equipment, plasma cutter, etc. If I had to choose I would pick air tools because of the range of options you have with...

    strap wrench recommendations

We use the larger Ridgid ones at work. They seem to be pretty decent at getting a bite on things. The rubber inter tube is a good idea too!

    Hand plane for a beginner.

I would look at getting a number 5 plane. Doesn't matter if it's a Stanley, Keen Kutter, or any other brand if you want to do it on the cheap. Bed Rock style Stanley's are crazy expensive now. Buy two blades from Hock to setup for different tasks. One with a radius for scrub planing if you...
