Never knew this stuff existed. It's osb with some kind of flame resistant coating, giving it a 30 minute rating. Quick search showed $39 a sheet at Menard's. BUT- there's a place near here selling it off at $7 a sheet, a bit less than regular osb!

I wonder how it would take paint? I'd need about 40 sheets to do the shop, and I'd have to figure out a good way to store it for a year or better before I'm ready to use it. Still, seems like a killer deal. Anyone here ever see it or use it?

We have some of it at work. It really doesn't look to much different from regular OSB. The stuff we have has a coating on it, so I would guess it would not absorb as much paint when you go to finish it.

If it's cheap I'd say go for it.

Once you paint over the stamp with the fire rating, as far as everyone else is concerned it's regular OSB. So after it's installed and before it's painted pick a few inconspicuous areas that have the fire rating stamp on them to leave unpainted.

I don't really care that much about the fire rating. i was going to just use regular OSB anyway. Having the fire resistance is just icing on the cake. I haven't looked at it yet, but I'm hoping the coating hides the OSB-iness appearance some. That, and it should only take one coat of a decent paint to look OK.
