    Generator connections

You can run the house off the 50 and the spa off the 30. If I read you right, the spa is currently running off a 20 amp circuit anyhow. I run two panels off the two 240 outputs on mine every time we run out of power. It works fine, just don't overload the generator and you will be just fine...

What's a decent framing nail gun?

Some nailers that take clipped nails can run offset heads instead. You get the code compliance of a full head (since it is one), with the angle and size of the clipped head nail. For example, both the Pasload and Dewalt cordless models can run offset head nails.

What's a decent framing nail gun?

You have several good recommendations. I have friends who love Pasload, Hitachi, and Bostitch and all seem to be great guns. I'll second the palm nailer recommendation... really handy for small places, odd sized and/or large nails, and nailing brackets and hangers. When building my barn both...

    Tell me about generac generators

I have that unit and it will power a surprising amount... my well, water heater, 3ton AC (seriously), and the rest of my misc usage. I bought it knowing I needed something right now in my new-to-me country house, and knowing that this would "get me out of jail" until I could get a real whole...

    Concrete Curing 32x48, 6" slab

Regarding the "watering enough", some people literally flood it. My understanding is that you want it actually wet all the time for a month or so... Not wettened at some interval. That way you know it can't get dried out, which is what you want to avoid at (almost) all costs.

    Concrete Curing 32x48, 6" slab

Poured a similar 36x36x6" slab in Crozet and I just covered it in sheet plastic with taped seams and weighted edges (basically 2x4s and such in a solid line all around just outside the perimeter). That kept the concrete throroughly wet for the entire month we waited, you could see the moisture...

Garage Door Opener Light Caught Fire

I haven't... I have six total in my three bays (sommer opener), and no problems yet.

Garage Door Opener Light Caught Fire

Those Cree LED bulbs from HD are in mine. None of the issues you get with CFLs in an opener and <10W of heat being dissipated into the enclosure. They work great, provide plenty of light (two in each opener), and at 9$ a piece were not cheap but didn't break the bank. Cree is one of the brands...

    The Nest Thermostat

I have two Gen1's. I hadn't heard the sensor complaint but I will say that their customer service is excellent. The people on phone support are amazingly knowledgeable and the cross ship replacements without hassle. I had one break when renovating (moving the thermostat and rerouting the wires...

What's Best finish for northern white cedar lap siding?

On recommendations we put "One Time" on our new cedar lap siding. The previous owners had put nothing on their house and most of the wood had gone to hell. We replaced all the bad (or even worn) wood, brightened the salvageable wood that was left, and the used a darker One Time color. That...

Hardiplank over foam board over OSB

Check out Zip Systems R-Sheathing. I'm dried in with my new barn/garage using that and the whole experience has been great. The price really wasn't bad when you realize you bought the OSB and foam and TyVek all at once, and then put them up almost as easily as just putting up the OSB alone...

Sheathing - Anyone tried "Zipboard" ?

I'm using it and really like the result. The barn was dried in quickly, killed the thermal coupling, and really isn't expensive given that you just installed sheathing/insulation/wrap all at once.

    The Garage Pit

The post about digging a pit said he "reached bedrock in some places". I was thinking about loose dirt on those pit walls too... Having done trench rescues, I won't go above my waist in a dirt wall trench that is deeper than wide. More power to them if someone else wants to, but I won't. Those...

I would humbly like to submit to KPSquared: "pics or it didn't happen" :bounce: In all seriousness, he is exactly right. Regards and best of luck! Hunter
