When we had conditioned attic requirement on some navy houses we designed built we ran into trouble finding shingles that were warranted for non vented roof deck. Most required baffles to be installed. We found some but I would guess yours may not be. I believe in the idea of conditioned attic...
FYI, when I did mine I used a plastic dryer vent minus the flapper as the outside rain shield and then a piece of plastic gutter against the wall to hide the line sets.

I have ceramic in my garage and never had a problem with slipping until I pulled and engine and coolant and oil was on the floor. Then when wearing tennis shoes it was extremely dangerous. I when and put on my work boots with slip resistant soles and the problem went away. I now have a pair of...
I imported it around '07. I think it was around $1900 plus shipping at the time. The thing is you don't have to lift things all the way. Just stop before you hit the ceiling. When you move just unbolt it from the floor and install in your new garage.

Sorry, I don't have any more pics posted. I have some of the build process and such and used a lot of the ideas gathered here. I basically took a garage that opened to the side of the house, moved the doors to the front and added this shop portion to the side. I now have 3 doors on the front...
Here is a pic from my iPhone of the shop area of my garage. I have not been home long enough this summer to even put the race car back into the garage so can't comment on how well it will hold up.

A superintendent that worked for me some time ago always said my PE stood for ***** Extraordinaire.
Keep in mind I started working for him when I was around 16 or so doing construction labor. Came back to the company after college and eventually became his project manager.

You can rent the thermal imaging camera for about $250 for two weeks. I just rented one to inspect an electrical bus duct and am now using it to look for cold spots in the walls that may need addressed. Easy to use.

I like a lot of the tricks I am reading here. One thing i would add is that I spray down the block and frame where the oil may spill with soapy water (or windex if I am at the track) so that what ever oil spills and runs just slides off and no burning oil smell (or smoke).

This past summer I researched water heaters for my new home purchase and the gut and remodel. I needed an electric but most other stuff is the same.
Check out http://www.waterheaterrescue.com/
Things to look for are R value of insulation, Magnesium Anode (that should be changed every so...
We had to apply the spray ignition barrier on the spary foam in the attic per the IRC on some Navy housing we are building. The foam was applied to the roof deck and the attic was conditioned space.

My 30 amp breaker has a screw in the middle holding down a plate where you put the wire on either side of the screw. It does not have the hole in the middle with the lug that squeezes the wire. I think the 30 amp breaker says max #8. I understand the strip gauge and such but the wire will not...
I have done something similar in my garage and added a "general use" 240 receptical with #6 wire. It will be used for the welder as well as other things. Right now i am using it to plug an electric unit heater into. The heater needs a 30 amp breaker so that is what I used to protect the...
I would bet that there is already a plug on the heater. Mine has one that was factory installed. For hooking it up, I used a surface mount plug and mounted it above my garage panel. Cut a small hole behind where the plug would be mounted on the wall by the ceiling and ran a wire through the...
