Power Tool Advice for First-Time Homeowner

I have Milwaukee M18 tools for my residence and keep a set of Ryobi tolls at my second home. I would buy Ryobi before HF, proven quality and batteries that don’t change. Both are great and effectively serve my needs. The M18 tools are more robust and have noticeably more power, at roughly twice...

    A Canary In The Shop

We have a Canary in our second home, it's hard wired to the router...we don't use the wireless option. We like just being able to see the house when we're not there, a few times we've kept an eye on workers in the house. The Canary is placed on a shelf full of family photos and most people are...

    Temp folding table

This! I use plastic folding saw horses and a 2' x 4' piece of OSB or plywood. I do a lot of spray painting on the setup in the yard, it works great and doesn't take up much room when stored. And you get sawhorses too!

    Nail questions

Maybe I've just been lucky, but along with several "name brand" nailers I have a narrow crown stapler, a pin nailer, and T50 stapler that work surprising well as long as I don't use HF fasteners in them...all were about $15 each and well worth it. Also have a HF coil roofing nailer I bought for...

    Shop Segretation Idea---Inputs?

There are a lot of hardware options for pocket doors out there. If I were looking to do what you are thinking, I would just buy the track, rollers, and guides build my own frame using full 2X4's on both sides (not 1X's, even steel wrapped ones) and a pair of 3-0 X 6-8 1-3/4" solid core doors. It...

    Computer In The Garage.

I use a refurbished Lenovo I bought from Tiger Direct. Was about $115 delivered and I already had an extra monitor, the computer came with a keyboard and mouse. Wasn't too concerned about specs because I only use it for looking at manuals in pdf, googling for info, and perusing various forums...

    Equipto style cabinets

I have an 11 drawer Lista cabinet that came with dividers and I have removed them from most of the drawers in favor of Schaller boxes (purchased on Ebay). I like them much better for nuts, bolts, and small hardware because I can easily rearrange them as my collection changes and take the box out...

Replacement swivel for HF hose reel?

Exactly that! The new o rings won't look like a perfect fit, they won't completely fill the grooves, but they will work quite nicely...mine did too.

    How to Fix Sagging Header

Here in So Cal and I'm sure a lot of other locations you won't get a permit for that type of repair without a stamped plan and structural calcs. Chances are the engineer will call out strong walls and new anchoring on either side of the opening as well. Like all things real estate related it's...

    Thoughts on walk door size

Looks like your window headers are set at 8', it's typical for the door header height to match the window header height...that's what I would do. Fiberglass is a great choice as others have said, lasts much longer than wood and doesn't dent like steel.

    Help with property buying advice.

There has been a lot of sound advice offered here, and on the surface it sounds like this a worth a closer look and more research. It basically comes down to this: what is a comparable property in move-in condition selling for and how much money will it take to make this property move-in ready...

    Shelves for Garage--Help!

I have some commercial "boltless" shelving I bought about 15 years ago and it is substantially stronger than the offerings from HD, Lowe's, Costco, etc...you can still buy that type of shelving but you might have to order online and have it shipped. It is a little more $$$, but might be worth...

    Lokking for welders opinions

I think there's a lot more guys with 110v welders that wish they had or could upgrade to a 220v welder that guys with 220v welders thinking that they should have just stayed with the 110v machine... My first wire feed machine was a Lincoln SP100 (110v) running flux core wire, it worked for what...
