Got a nail question. I was given a whole box of nails for a nail gun today. However the nail gun I'm planning on buying is the harbor freight 28 degree nail gun. The nails are paslode 30 degree nails. Will they work with the harbor freight gun?
Thanks. Charles

Usually can go 1 degree + or -. They will probably work but you may experience some jams-misfeeds.

Skip the Harbor Freight nailer and buy yourself something good.

Lots of great nailers on CL or Ebay . . . . Hitachi, Senco, Paslode, Bostitch, Porter Cable, Ridgid, etc.

Here is reconditioned Bostitch 28 degree nailer for $159 at CPO:

I'd rather have ANY used Hitachi nailer instead of POS from HF.

Those 30 degree nails will work in 28 degree nailer.

Heed this advise for your own good. I had a Bostich which was ok when I was younger, but seemed to require a chain hoist to pick up to use as I got older. My son gave me a new HF gun which must have been one of the bad ones. Double hits, and shot one nail out sideways which embedded at a 10 degree angle. My friend has one that has been excellent.

I knew of Hitachi reputation and bought the NR90AE(s) framing nailer this past Thursday, which was the last day of Lowe's sale at $159. I have used it for 3 days straight and you would now have to whip my *** to take it from me. Light weight and ergonomic, a pleasure to use. I am 63 years old, so things like this are more important to me than they once were.

Yea I'm a weekend warrior and have only Senco. I changed the trigger to single pull basically to prevent double taps.

If the nails are 30 degree... it might fit, might not. I wouldn't pull the trigger on a hf gun with the wrong nails in it though... ever.

I agree with Hitachi, absolutely the best. Senco, Paslode and others are good. Have a great older Makita.

HF nailer? I would not.

Clipped head nails... Sorry forgot to mention that.

More of a chance for misfires, IMHO. But nails are cheap, don't buy a gun because of the nails you have. That's like buying a car because of the brand of tires it has.

I have: Sencos, lots of them, and they've been flawless. They do require parts now and then, like in 10 years. No Senco framer though.

Bostitch, dual nailer type with 2 heads and 2 modes of operation. Great gun but I probably wouldn't get another one. Shoots full head, full length nails and metal attachment nails.

A china knock off from the 90's called Stantech. It's a clone and takes the same parts as a Stanley. Cheap and fairly reliable. It's light and does 8, 10 and 16 ga clipped nails. I grab this one the most unless I have to use full head nails.

Most guns will double tap if you have them set up to fire sequentially if you don't have the touch. You need to bounce the gun, not press it.

I agree with the above....spend the money and get a brand name nail gun. I bought a Paslode and it will shoot 16 and 8's through it, clipped head and round. It also uses 30-33 degree nails up to 3 1/2" long and .113-.131 diameter in size

Don't let a box of nails drive your decision. Buy quality. I'm still using the used Hitachi gun I bought in 1978. Rebuilt the trigger seals once.

I bought this NuMax a couple years ago to frame the inside of my last shop. A lot cheaper than the name brands. I don't remember which it was, but it's a rebranded big name that costs twice as much. No problems with it and nails are readily available at the box stores.

Maybe I've just been lucky, but along with several "name brand" nailers I have a narrow crown stapler, a pin nailer, and T50 stapler that work surprising well as long as I don't use HF fasteners in them...all were about $15 each and well worth it. Also have a HF coil roofing nailer I bought for a small job and didn't have any problems and at work we have two flooring nailers that have been flawless. Granted, the flooring nailers are only used a couple of times a year but why spend more when these have been problem free for how they are used?

I do have a Porter Cable framing nailer that's little better than a hammer....

Using the correct non-HF fastens in HF guns makes them work well for me...

I have the HF framing, roofing and brad nailer with almost no issues. They paid for themselves on the first job and will continue to serve me well. Keep them oiled. I think it should shoot the 30's ok with maybe a few jams here and there. I shoot dewalt nails from Home Depot and they seem to feed well in the HF guns.

Wonder how many complain about Harbor freight products have never even used them.

I used their framing nailer to build a large storage shed and their finish nailer to put up wood paneling in the basement.

They drove in the fasteners with no problem and didn't jam I'm not sure what else I'm supposed to expect. They were inexpensive to buy, so if they do break I could just throw them in the scrap pile.

If I used one every day I might go for something more expensive which automatically means better, but otherwise, it just seems like a waste of money.

I once bought a HF brad nailer for a small trim thing I was working on, along with a box of brads I think I was out 20 bucks. It had to broken open and the magazine cleared about every 5-10 shots, but was still faster than hand nailing. My Paslode framing gun however, is unstoppable, dirty, dry, whatever. It also wasn't twenty bucks.

X3 or 5 or 7, buy a good gun and then worry about nails. I use a small HF trim nailer, works great. People trash Hf in this thread, but the reviews on the small guns are great. Besides, for the price when/if it does **** out you throw it over the fence and grap another. Watch the operating pressure. The middle one I have is a Craftsman 15 ga - also work very well, had it for years. I bought a refurbed Porter Cable for framing and fence work - it's killer. Same on the roofing nailer.

And HF has made millions upon millions using that creed. I've only thrown one HF tool in the trash that didn't work right out of the box. Wasn't worth the gas to return it. When they ask about selling me an extended warranty I tell them my EW is how far I can throw the thing.

So far I'm up about a few hundred $$ on that scheme.
