What Does I-R Built At Its Athens, Georgia Plant?

Correct it is IR Athens, PA After over a hundred years IR is closing the facility, moving product to sister plants and ending nearly 200 jobs in the process- mine included.:( If you're interested in where the tools are going to be made from mid-year on, I'm not sure.

Would you buy a second-hand micrometer?

Mitutoyo Digital micrometers have been the best IMHO. If you don't like digital (and I can't think of a real reason why besides the battery life), Starrett and Brown and Sharpe rule. Give the anvil and posts faces a good look. Should be absolutely no wear or un-eveness. If the faces are...

    Buying a Used Impact Wrench

You should be able to rotate the anvil a full 360 without forcing it (you're trying to feel if the hammers, hammer frame, or anvil are broke). The housing shouldn't be cracked. Look at the screen at the base of the inlet for gunk. Give a good look over of the anvil for its condition. Shake...

    IR 244 rebuild question

Usually the bottom of the housing (where the grease fitting is) gets about full with grease, then the hammers get the grease treatment Marlin said above. Not to worry if you over greased; it will either blow out of the motor or get moved out of the way. The test station here used to be a mess...

WTF is going on with my air ratchet?!

I wish I had an answer for you, but without seeing it I couldn't say. Likewise- it's not a model that I have access to parts for.... Model diagram: http://www.irtechpubs.com/ir_pdfs/Tools/Impact%20Tools/Air%20Ratchets/80156532_ed1.pdf

Shelf Life of 'New' IR impact wrench?

Only time to worry is if the previous owner wasn't careful with moisture in their air lines. Seen several tools for repair with rusted insides, and also rusted throttle pins from that. The rest of it will usually work otherwise.

Gold Plated Impact Gun - Snap-on

Sad to say- I don't own a compressor anymore... so it's for show. I bought one of the Ray Evernham models too, then the wife decided I didn't need anymore. Back in the day when my dad worked here AJ Foyt had a special impact made for him and toured the plant. Think dad still has the...

Gold Plated Impact Gun - Snap-on

Back around 10 years ago IR made thousands of brass-plated 'golden-guns'. They were fully functional, and...well...pretty. We made many more than people were interested in buying if I remember right. The other issue is the time involved in making them; extra care to insure no scratches...

    IR 244 rebuild question

Yes. A lot has changed since...but that's true of everything isn't it? Still make some of what you mention, but in much much lesser numbers. Air starters are still made by IR and in the US, but they were moved to a sister plant at Southern Pines.

    IR 244 rebuild question

The motor should be flat or nearly so in the housing. If I remember right, the bearing should be flat to the top of the endplate, and as mentioned before- the rings face as stated. Usually it requires a solid knock to seat the motor. We have a tool that fits over the rotor spline and rests on...

    ir 2135 question

Sorry. The 2135TiMax has about 10% improvement in performance. Same rationale though.
