    Workwear GORUCK Packs/Rucksacks

I recently discovered GORUCK when looking for some backpacking gear. I picked up a GORUCK GR Echo and was so smitten with the construction and quality I picked up a GORUCK GR2. I plan on putting them to good use on a future backpacking trip to Europe. The Echo fits inside the GR2, and...

Repeating the Plea: BUY (North) AMERICAN!

In 2006, there were 4.8 million people employed as dockworkers. What happens to their jobs when people stop buying imported goods? I know the answer, it's nothing, because nothing would change. Just 5 years ago, in 2006, unemplyment rate was under 5% in the US. Guess what. We bought a **** load...

matco dealer scaring away cornwell dealer

Or how hard is it to go to your next shop if you see a truck there already and come back? I see the local Snap On guy driving all over the place, never in a logical 'route', per se.

Most you would spend on a pocket knife?

I carry a SOG Aegis Tanto with me every day, which is about $60. I don't carry it every day, but I also have a SOG PowerAssist which appears to be the same price these days, $60, but was $120 when it first came out.

Got some more Wera drivers. These are hex-plus 454 T-handles, and the last 2 torx-plus 367 drivers to finish my work collection (T6-T20 is all I need) I may pick up some 367K ball-ends, cause I really like the ball-end torx on the Wera L-key set I have, and maybe a set of 467 T-Handle Torx...

Got my box from Jens today. :rocker: Got the 802/5 set w/ the 802-80 to make it the 6-piece set. Also picked up a 2240/36 bit set and a 808/7 torx electricians screwdriver set. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/7640612@N04/6233952896/" title="IMG_0347 by irateprimate, on Flickr"><img...

    Modified tools, show us yours

I've only ever ground a wrench flat in one (and it was a Craftsman, and I was so pissed at the time I didn't realize I ground the flats into the stamped size mark) My dad, though, refuses to buy expensive tolls simply because he modifies them so often. He only ever buys cheap sockets, and it's...

    Recommend Me A Bit Set

Seconding the Wera. I got their adjustable-torque torx set, and while I broke a bit because I overtorqued (should have stopped and done the Newton-Meter to Ft-Lb conversion), I BROKE the bit, I didn't strip the bit, which tells me they're harder than they are tough, which I like for the wear...

    Knipex Rep Stopped by Work

I run into a serious dear-in-the-headlights/too-many-options when I look at their catalogue. I'd like to replaced my no-name and craftsman stuff with Knipex, but I just don't know what I really need, so I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

6 point vs. 12 point box end wrenches

I picked up a set of metric 6pt Craftsmans when I replaced some missing sockets a month ago (picked up some other goodies, like their T-handle torx set) I'm quite happy with them. I may have to get an SAE set simply because I know in my heart of hearts the raised-panels will go away some day...

The things that annoy you in the fabrication industry?

My biggest peeve is when people don't measure things. Especially when troubleshooting lathes and why a set up isn't running right, or a part isn't coming out right, chatter, poor finish, etc. Or a dimension is out (usually in regards to alignment of milled features). First thing I ask is if...

    Demographics of this site

 I've got 10 years experience and I'm still in training. If you do it right, you're always in training. Even if you're the top guy at the shop. Obvious blue collar professional, here. :D

    Wera Kraftform Sales Sample?

I was in a bad mood at work today, and the second I saw this I just busted up laughing. You really lightened my mood with that, for which I thank you.

    Another Lathe Question

Key to parting is, like everything else, speeds and feeds. On CNC machines we part with carbide, but any time I'm making tooling I part with HSS and cutting oil. It's slow, but it makes a nice, controlled cut.
