Reed 204 1/2 Vise and It's All Mine!

I just notice today that the vise that we've had in the shed/shop of our small grain farm is a Reed vise similar to the one I see here. That vise has been bolted to our workbench since the early 1970's. Grandpa bought that vise for my Dad at a farm sale way back then. Paint? This is odd that...

    Porter-Cable Homemaster Circular Saw

Fifty bucks back in 1955? Holy ****! That's a one week paycheck back then! I'm guessing they didn't sell many of these.

sears in my area has closed no more craftsman for me so what now

I've had pretty good luck with the Kobalt line of tools from Lowes, but it sounds like not everyone has. Another thought would be craigslist or ebay for some old Blackhawk, SK, or Thorsen.

What kind of clip is this?

That's what we call 'em here, too, only we call E-clips that.

What kind of clip is this?

Nope, it's metal. And it's not made of round stock, it's made out of square stock. Just a little unusual. The diameter of the round stock sorta screws things up. It's the retaining clip of a lead screw from an old D44 Columbian vise. I need the same thing, only for a D45, a little bigger...

What kind of clip is this?

Do you know when what it is you're looking for is so simple that you don't know what to call it? Well, I'm there. Can anyone help me on this one?

    I need a simple part for a Columbian D45-M3.

I think I got her figured out. Thanks to all, including vise parts.com. I had some good suggestions, and I'll get one of them in place as soon as the paint dries. This is a good place. I think I'll hang around a little, if you don't mind.

    I need a simple part for a Columbian D45-M3.

It's as simple as salt, but I can't find what I need. I need the lead screw retaining clip that holds it in place as I'm opening the jaws. viseparts.com can't help me. I called. I'm surfing McMaster Carr, but I hate to buy what I'm not sure will work. Any suggestions?

Moving to the country, any words of wisdom?

I've never lived in town, but this is how I counsel those considering moving to the sticks: It's a whole lot more work. You'll burn anywhere from 4 to 12 hours per week on maintenance. It's more money. You lawn mower will cost between $2000 and $10,00 dollars. And that's just for the LAWN...

Is it part of a tube bending jig?

    Decent 1/2" drive set

I've owned an SK 1/2" socket set for nearly 40 years, and they've served me quite well. I shredded the ratchet about 15 years ago, and picked up a Craftsman because my local auto parts/SK dealer went out of business. I do have to admit, I've abused the daylights out of this set, and it just...

    Favorite Knife

Right now, it's a Spyderco Techno. They're very well made, nearly nice enough to give the Sebenza a run for its money.

An old farm kid checking in....

I'm mid fifties, Dad's 79, and we still farm about 450 acres, but things are winding down. We still constantly intermix tools between his shop and my garage, and I'm betting I've misplaced more tools than most guys will ever own. I'm finally able to start to make the garage look more like a...
