    Kayak mount to stud

Im kind of having trouble understanding. Nothing is screwing into the sheet metal of the building, its all through the square tubing steel stud. Cant really put a nut and washer on the back side of the bracket from the front, theres no access to the middle of the stud obviously, and the other...

Im trying to figure out how you made those brackets to get the pulleys level.... Hard to see in that pic.

    Kayak mount to stud

This is an interesting idea. I like it cause now we are using the shear strength of the fasteners going in from the side, instead of the shear strength of the threads going through the front. Overkill? Probably, but if its worth doing, its worth overdoing.

    Kayak mount to stud

Interesting thought. Floor space is at a premium right now, so Im gonna try the hanging first. Meanwhile im gonna look at welding myself up a caster cart for when i get tired of climbing. Gotta learn the hard way, ya know  Thanks for the idea...

    Kayak mount to stud

Think that will be enough? I was concerned about the brackets, since they stick out a bit and the kayaks probably weigh 50# im guessing...I was worried taking them on and off, the self tappers levering loose. But maybe im overthinking it.

    Kayak mount to stud

So I wanted to mount kayak racks. What would be the best way to attach them to the metal studs? Toggle bolt, lag bolt, attach 2x4 to the stud and attach to that, or maybe weld in place? Thought maybe a wing-type toggle bolt would work, but they say they are for drywall and block.
