Cobras are the best, the Alligators are a lower cost alternative. The only situation where I think Alligators would be better is if you really plan to abuse them: mud, rain, salt water, etc.

I've used one like this (not this exact one) to start a 454 motor with no battery connected. I definitely wouldn't expect it work consistently on that though.

I've bought from them, with good luck. Got the Specialty Pliers and Set KX267487, 22" cobra, and some pliers wrenches. Got everything just fine. This was a year or two ago. The 22" cobra was $84.99 as I remember.
