    Sk socket

Last set of sockets I bought from SK were the last SK set I'll buy. The hex key bits are the wrong size. You read that correctly. Not a typo. SAE hex bits do not fit the fasteners of that size. My old Craftsmen ones and the new Tekton set I bought to replace the SK fit fine. The SAE six-point...

Framing before or after electrical on a metal building

    Couldn't help myself . . . sorry.

Has anyone purchased a Motive pressure brake bleeder recently? Is the quality still there?

Mine failed so I bought a fluid extractor setup instead. The plastic blow-molded threads on the Motiv were complete **** and would not seal well. Had a big seam right at the threads too. Harbor Freight extractor (first thing I've every purchased there) has been handy for all kinds of stuff...

What does everyone call Penetrating Fluid around the shop?

Have been teaching my 12yo son things in the shop. He has moved beyond how to bolt/unbolt things and how to we repair or replace parts. He's now curious about the chemical shelf and has been asking for various goo while working on bicycles for him and his friends. So I call it what it is depite...

    PSA- Wedding ring safety

I had a somewhat serious motorcycle crash in 2018. Almost lost my pinky and ring finger on my left hand from sliding along the pavement with my hand pinned between the grip and road surface. My hand swelled up so much that my wedding ring was cutting of my circulation. In retrospect I think the...

Why are Snap-On toolboxes so expensive?

I knew this would be asked . . . but was too lazy to come back and edit to include the phrase "in most cases". Had I spent some more time posting instead of doing a drive-by on the way to a work meeting, I would have said something like . . . Financing helps companies selling relatively...

Why are Snap-On toolboxes so expensive?

IMO, financing only helps people buy **** they can't afford. <old man yells at cloud mode - off> Jason

    Wiring 2 m18 batteries in series…

Sounds like getting the AGM or even gel version of a 12V tractor battery might solve this. I haven't used a flooded battery with fill caps in years. jason

What kind of grease / oil for roller bearing drawer slides?

Another vote for TriFlow. I use it as a general light lube for just about everything (like 3n1 used to be for). Wicks into position nicely and never gums up. Jason

Planning to insulate my shop, questions

Am getting near the end of a shed/ADU build recently and faced a similar question about how to ventilate the cathedral/shed roof. Ended up doing what you mentioned. Installed foam board leaving 3" open vent channel between the foam and the roof. As was also suggested above, I put vents at both...

    Sill plate anchor bolts

I just had a pad done for a small outdoor space I'm building. Some of the poured-in j-bolts ended up interfering with my framing layout so I cut them off flush and put in wedge bolts. Simple enough. What are some of the reasons one would prefer j-bolts other than price? Thanks, Jason

Buying a house with an existing garage/shop....

I bet this is one the traits that makes you the right person to run the water treatment plant. Details matter. Some of us worry about those details more than others (fellow obsessor here). Jason

Blue shop towels vs rags in a box

I've seen plenty of red rag lint accumulated in engine internals such as trays/traps/filters. They're too flimsy and leave too much **** behind IMO. Blue towels.

Construction question - sheathing under open soffit

I'm sold! Seems like more work and trouble keeping the eave open than just closing it. Will do. Thanks for your input. Jason p.s. - @BillK Yes, that was the spot I was questioning.
