VCT tile now done. Looks great!

Back from the dead ... to ask a question. How level does the floor have to be? My floor is far from level ... I have a couple of spots that heaved a bit right after the floor was poured. I could probably grind the really bad spots, but I'll never get the floor 100% level. I'll drop my 4ft...

Very nice body work in someones garage :P

First picture looks like a photoshop job. The lighting on the girl doesn't really match the rest of the scene. I wonder if her ***** are made in the USA?

    before you blame HF!

The kid with the tools you are all mocking did post here at one time. He linked that video where he knocks over his toolbox. Some of you guys are elitist assholes. He's just a kid, as a father it pains me to see "men" mocking him. You guys should go back to polishing your tools and let the kid...

Who made your trusses? I had Northland Building and Truss make mine. I went with all attic trusses, so far so good nothing has fallen down :)

    Natural gas line, pressure drop

I would be concerned. I put my gas line in on Saturday and pressure tested with 15psi. As of yesterday it was still 15psi. With the temperature changing it would fluctuate about 2-3psi, but has been coming back up to 15psi once the temp normalizes. If you are actually losing air, you have...

    Trenching time/speed?

Using a 10HP 30" trencher and doing about 30 feet in really dense clay. Was held up by two large rocks and a 2X4, the ground being wet and slick didn't help either. In actual trenching time it took about 40-45 minutes. With out the hold ups I would think 1ft/min wouldn't be out of the question...

    40 amp service?

I've got a 40amp service to my garage. The big power items are a 220V compressor and a 220V 180A Lincoln mig welder. I've run both at the same time with out issue. Over the winter I was also running a 220V construction heater and normally was running about 8 100W light bulbs. My advice, go with...

How many Amps to you have in your shop?

I've only got a 40amp panel in my garage, house is 120amp (new construction 1 year ago). I run a 220V (180amp) Mig, 220V 3hp compressor, 220V electric heater, 110 power tools (drill press, table saw ... etc), lights and various hand tools. I've never had an issue with popping a breaker. I...

    Tips on welding

All I've been doing so far is running welds a couple pieces of plate I have, and some old exhaust tubing. The thicker plate was a little easier to see the puddle and try to get a feel for what I was doing. The exhaust tubing was a little tougher since I'd blow through it in short order if I...

    Tips on welding

Is there a non-destructive way to gauge penetration? If welding on plate, what should the back side look like? Thanks for the tips guys, keep 'em coming!

    Tips on welding

Hello, Bought myself a welder a while ago (Lincoln 180A 220V Mig). I'm running an Argon/Co2 mix. I have a spool of 0.025 and 0.030 wire and associated tips. I'm pretty much starting cold, no real experience. What would be a good practice to get started? Obviously welding scrap together, but...

This is how we treat american manufacturers?

Would this have been ok if it were a foriegn (Chinese) company, instead of Lincoln?

    Quick electrical question

I've got the same configuration in my garage right now. 40a service to the panel in the garage. Welder is on a 40a breaker. Welder is a linconln 180a 240V unit, and calls for a 40am breaker. I have no problems with it, with all the lights on. I think the welder only actually uses 20a@240V. Our...

    Electrical question ... capacity

Thanks, this is the information I was looking for. :) Looks like 100A subpanel it is. My house has 200A service, will the 100A subpanel be too much? This is a detached garage about 60ft from the house panel.

    Electrical question ... capacity

Hello, Long time reader, first time poster. I see alot of people are putting in 100A subpanels in their garage. 100A seems like a lot to me. Why so much? Maybe I could see it if multiple people were going to be working in the garage at any given time, but like most I'm sure I will be the only...
