    Grinder worth restoring?

The lamp is great for good lighting while you're working on a piece. I'm looking for that kind of lamp part - if you don't want it, let me know! :)

    Craftsman Block grinder - 3/4 HP model-397.19670

Thanks! Hoo boy! I found a few on ebay and they are expensive. I think I'll go with my cheapo lamp for now. The grinder is missing the right wheel covers so it's not like it's a complete grinder. I have it set up with a wire week on the left and a spiral buffing wheel adapter on the right.

    Craftsman Block grinder - 3/4 HP model-397.19670

That's one nice grinder! I have the same one, but it's missing the lamp. I have the flex part but not the socket or the shade. Does anyone know of a source from something the same or similar?

    Buffing Wheel Questions

Here are the details on the taper adapter: Inside threaded taper adapter for a 5/8" arbor. $18.55 + $9.16 shipping, total $27.71. Stuller Jeweler Supplies They carry both a right and left threaded adapater for 5/8" arbor, but nothing similar for a 1/2" arbor, at least as far as I can tell...

    Buffing Wheel Questions

I thought that I'd just need 4 wheels total for the 4 compounds, and I'd start off with Black and proceed to white, essentially. Not sure I can swing/justify 16 wheels. :-)

That's impressive! My neighbor is into Norton's and I went to an owner's group meeting with him recently. Great bikes.

    Buffing Wheel Questions

Great link, thanks! They don't appear to have leather pinhole center wheels. Do you know if 1/2" center holes would work on a taper adapter?

    Buffing Wheel Questions

That's what I'm afraid of! I'd like to keep it simple, since I don't do a ton of polishing and I'm not trying to get fancy finishes. My current compounds are from a box of four from Sears 30+ years ago.

    Buffing Wheel Questions

Nice looking buffers! Have you thought about/looked into using a taper adapter? I am attempting to go this route since I have limited space and budget, so I hope to have one grinder fitted with a wire wheel and a taper.

Trying to find some not made in China power tools, help!

I'd definitely look for something used. I started out looking for a new bench grinder but I discovered that I could get much better vintage grinder for 1/4 the cost of new. I wound up finding the Craftsman block grinders discussion on this board and got a couple for less than the cost of a new...

Much slower spin-down time was my experience after switching out the bearings as well. Good idea on fixing broken tabs. Thanks for the pic.
