Cheaper and low maintenance vs drywall

I did my garage with 5/8 drywall for fire safety as I weld, grind etc. yes the walls are getting dingy, but the semi gloss white really helps my eyes see with all the led lights I put in. As soon as I get my 50 chevy truck done to the point I can pull it out I will clean the walls, maybe put...

the quality of the roller tool makes a big difference, the 3.99 tool will frustrate you to no end.

    New shop questions!

Since I weld in my garage I used 5/8 sheetrock for both ceiling and walls. We are on a small in town lot, only a 5 foot setback, so I wanted to protect my neighbors as well.

Garage New Build - Insulation of Walls, Ceiling, Vapor Barrier

Make sure you have a vapor barrier under the concrete floor. How large a mini split? Make sure your installer sizes it to run enough to dehumidify as well as cool, ,

    Egress Windows

Keep in mind that the code allows you to use the measurements of the opening with the sash removed, as long as no tools are needed to remove it.

    Building inspector never showed.

I live 2 doors down from the town garage where the inspectors cars are parked overnight. When I built my garage and called for the framing inspection I was home all day, no inspector. At 3 pm I was standing in front waiting for him to return, stopped him and asked what happened. There was an...

Best 3 car garage size to include a 2 post lift

remember you lose width from the wall/foundation thickness. My garage is 24 wide by 30 deep (2 bays) and I find it too narrow for working, though I make it work.

    Back-to-back PVC elbows (plumbing question)

I once saw a plumber who did a spec modular home, the prospective buyers wanted the basement finished so he ran the drain thru every joist over more than 1/2 the house. The building inspector was ready to make them demolish the house, finally allowed them to remove drain lines and sister every...

Determining property line on larger property - Surveyor wasn't much help

As stated many times be sure of your property lines. I know of a home owner who told his well driller where he wanted it drilled. as he did not want a well head in the middle of his yard. He ended up with a 600 foot deep well dug at a big cost, even bigger when the property next door was...

Tool belt / tool bag / 'Grab whatever I need for the task' - what is your approach?

I finally bought a roller stackable tool carrier setup, stocked it with the basics, covers about 85 % of what I do. Put together two grab bags with additional electric in one, plumbing in another. There are a lot of more specialty tools I grab if I think I will need them, but this covers...

What type of work will you be doing? Any grinding, sanding machining/welding makes a mess and sends dust everywhere, If anyway possible seperate these from storage/ clean areas.

Trying to stay in budget, what can I cut?

While the formula for soffit/ridge vents above is accurate, this is a garage. As such it will not have showers, plants and multiple people exhaling moisture. I hope there is a moisture barrier under the slab. With the reduced moisture and the fact there is going to be climate control some...

Trying to stay in budget, what can I cut?

If DIY your drywall ceiling renting a lift will probably cost as much as buying the harbor freight one, unless you have help and put all the rock up in one session. I hung the sheetrock in my 24 by 30 garage by myself at 64, it is not fun but is doable. Taping it was a bit of a drag, I used a...

    sink draining too slow?

I have to pull the bathroom sink drain apart about once a year to clean the buildup of hair and scum around the base of the pop up for the same issue. It is just a 5 minute job that gets added to the honey do list by swmbo when it bothers her enough to put it there.
