Nothing done to the race car yet. No money for racing. FJB!
Got laid off back in January from my IT job. No luck finding a new one. I'm pretty disillusioned with IT. Been in it for 28 years. The money's good but my heart's not really in it anymore. At 61, it's a lot harder to impress me...
I'm inclined to leave it uncovered. It's thickly powder coated and the only part where rust would really matter is the threaded rod at the top. But it's well greased and covered by the tube threaded onto it at the top.
I bought a HF tire changer a while back and put off doing anything with it because I had no room in my shop to set it up and I really didn't feel like pouring a slab outside somewhere. As luck would have it, we decided to get some work done on our septic tank and they brought a replacement lid...
I wish I had answers. I've always wondered about the cost. There's an Aussie YouTuber that seems budget minded but always gets hardware plated. He does it so frequently that I assumed it didn't cost much. And maybe down under it doesn't.
Look forward to hearing about DIY solutions.
I never updated after my initial test drive with the new transmission. I went to a track day Aug 31. Drove one warm-up lap and started to do a flying lap and all hell broke loose. I can't be sure of the speed but seemed like around 70 mph, the car started violently shaking. I just loaded up and...
I have always wanted a way to attach my air chucks and blowers onto my portable air compressor so I don't have to hunt for them constantly. I use this compressor more than my large one because most of what I need air for is inflating tires and this thing is easy to carry around and it's super...
Got the car out for a quick test drive this morning and got to test the two major changes; new muffler and new transmission.
The muffler is definitely quieter. At idle, I'm going to guess in the neighborhood of 40 db less than the old one. So I could comfortably let the car idle while warming...
No time for a test drive today. I had more to do than just re-install the exhaust. Had to bleed the clutch and install the driveshaft. Still need to put wheels back on it and get it down off the QuickJacks. But I have to mow this afternoon so that will have to wait for another day.
On a...
Got a new drain plug from McMaster. This one is solid aluminum. No worries drilling this one.
I got the transmission installed. After re-attaching the shifter to the side of the transmission, I found a problem. This Long shifter (Long is the brand name) has sliders that move back and forth as...
On the new transmission, the drain plug was drilled for safety wire but the fill plug was not. The builder recommended drilling the tab on the transmission (the nub to the right of the fill plug) and just safety wiring the drain plug to that. But I wanted both of them (fill and drain) safety...
Well, upon closer inspection that turned out NOT to be a crack. I took another pic this morning at the clean bell housing and it looks fine in that area.
Close up of that area:
However, there IS a crack in the mounting flange and it looks like it goes all the way through the casting...
OMG!! I hadn't noticed that. I'll check it this morning. That would ****. Since I took that pic, I spent some time cleaning it so you'd think I would have noticed but...
Last week I finally removed my bell housing and clutch. I had to support the rear of the engine to do this because the bell housing is sandwiched between the rear engine mounts and the engine. I had originally thought the rear mount was one piece that arched from one side to the other but it is...
