Why not look at renting a grinding machine with the diamond disks. Once you get to the right surface roughness then the polisher will work, but otherwise the pads will not last on the rough surface. Do it right and you will save a ton of money and time.

Looks like a good deal. I would replace the limit switches, they should be pretty cheap and it could stop someone, not necessarily you stuffing up and getting hurt. Just my 2c
