I second the rainwater collection. Dig a big cistern and run all of the gutters to it. Use it for car washing, irrigation for garden/lawn, etc.

Those Simrad machines are great.
Check to see if it has the color block feature. You can turn the gain up, and then eliminate the colors that are just noise to get a great picture of the bottom and any bait or target fish.

Check out mud hole tackle for rod wrapping supplies.
You can grab an old microwave and use the turntable motor for a dryer. Couple bungies and v blocks you’re good to go. I spiral wrapped a rod. It’s quite fun.
