I got the 3 in one transducer. The one they just came out with. As far as noise on the screen that was it out of the water I really have not played with it much. The seas have been screwed up any ways. Also I just pulled the injectors and sent them off for cleaning and adjusting. I have now gone through this complete motor. Hope she treats me well this summer.

As far as the truck today I got the cab mounts done today. What a pain in the *** that was. I am glad I bought the set that came with new metal brackets and bolts. Everything on mine was shot. I had to pry each one apart. One took three hours to get out. I really had to heat the one up. I waited way to long to change these out. Anyway wow the truck rides great now. I got a little front end work todo on the ole f350 and she should be good for a while.

Need to get the new tires put on the boat trailer and off to the cars. Daughter car needs a little work and of corse the wife’s car has a pop noise in it and a power steering hose leak. And the mustang still needs a front end. Always something. But if the weather is nice and the ocean is flat I will be fishing.

This video explains the color erase feature. It’ll come in handy when you’re fishing.
Don’t run that transducer out of the water, you can damage it.

Thanks for the information. Yea, someone told me on Facebook not to run the transducer out of the water also. So I put a stop to that.

So since the ocean is to ruff I decided to keep on with the repairs. I been cleaning up this engine bracket on the boat. The idiot before me painted bottom paint on it and it has copper in it. Not a good match. I been cleaning on this thing now for two day and it’s coming out nice. I think five or six more hours of work and she will be ready for paint. I got the good stuff to paint it with so it should be good for many years to come. Some people should not be working on things. Also I pulled the injectors and sent them off last week. And got the trim tabs all working correctly. One would creep back up. A 2.99 fix. This boat better give me good service this year. Lol. I am sure something else will come up.

Interlux trilux?

Post up some pics of the bracket and the car repairs.
I heard it’s been blowing down there. Hopefully it’ll let up. You trying to get out for some sails?

Ok maybe I need to get better with pictures and get some more subscribers that can give good advice. First off I got the cab mounts changed out on the F-350. They sucked but got it done. I got the 400 dollar set and not the cheap set. The truck rides amazing. Next I tackled the steering. There seems mixed reviews that you can tighten the steering box up with success. Some say you can some say you can’t but what do I have to lose? So I tighten up to the point of no more noise and it seems to be working. When I get done with a turn and let the wheel go it goes back to driving straight so I think it’s good. If it buy me a few years before replacing the steering box it’s a win and if not I tried and will get a new box.

On to the boat. I got the injectors back from cleaning and got them installed and man what an improvement. One was lean and two where rich. They got them back into spects and she is running like a dream. I picked up an extra set and will get them sent off and cleaned and remanufactured if needed and have a set on hand. Next was getting the radial tires off of it. Wow what a difference no more sway no more thoughts of putting a sway bar on it. And plus tightening up the steering box and the bias tires what a big difference. However, I had to use straps to get the bead to seat and while releasing the ******** one of the tires the ratchet part came back and hit my finger and I got four stitches out of the deal. Damm it. Next time I will just use either. And I stopped today and got new chains for the trailer and lights. No more LED lights for me. Only got a year out of them. Now the bracket. I got the sides cleaned up very good. The bottom still needs work. I got some more heavy duty wheels for a grinder to hope to get this done quicker. This bracket is kinda ******* me off but such is life I guess.

I forget what primer I got but it was recommended by someone who rebuilds boats. And I got this bad *** paint used in the commercial ships. I think it’s bar rust 235. Comes highly recommended. The problem with this bracket was they stripped the paint and then applied the bottom paint directly on to the aluminum. Bottom paint has coper in it. Bad news in salt water. Any ways it’s ready for primer and paint. Just got to figure out how to paint upside down off of YouTube and get it done next weekend. I need to work this weekend and off on a little trip to the west coast.

Yea I think it’s similar to what I got. Just a different manufacturer. Being told I can bottom paint over this stuff as well. My problem was the bottom paint was applied directly to the metal.

Absolutely. Dissimilar metals in saltwater is a recipe for corrosion.
Barrier costs are wonderful things.

Any progress on the vehicles?

Hell to the the bottom on the vehicles. I been working at work or on the boat. Got to have priorities. I am currently out in San Diego will be home in a few days. But the main plan was to finish the boat and truck and then start to play with the three cars. I think it’s starting to warm up so might get that evaporator changed out on my daughters car. This will be the last component I can change. The only thing I can think of is there is a clog. Everything else has already been changed.

Well I got the bracket painted. Not to bad. Yes you can see the divots where the corrosion was. However it’s meant to be practical right now not pretty. I want it to be pretty but that’s not the case right now. Over all I am happy with it. I looked at a 31 foot 2005 island runner today and my boat is very nice compared I guess. I was looking thinking my boat was cosmetic challenged.

Wow what a busy weekend I had. After painting the bracket I went to go somewhere and the throttle plate on my mustang decided they where not going to move no more. I trouble shot that down to the motor and replaced it with an old one since I kept it when I thought it was bad from before. That got that car back on the road. However, when I drove the truck to go back to fix it it started to act up. WTF. Went the next day and got the code read out and it was TPS gas pedal or computer. Changed the TPS since I had one of them also left over from the mustang nada same thing. Went to get a gas pedal at almost 300 so I went to the junk yard and got one from there for 50. That fixed the truck. I also ordered a Yates racing throttle body for The mustang and it came with no gasket. Come on Robert include the damm gasket. I also decided to take the truck in to get the plugs changed since it has the two piece plugs. And while we are at it have them service the transmission. Hopefully she is good for a while. I will still have the front end to do on the mustang but that can wait. Also have a wrapped rotor and that is bugging the **** out of me. Someday I will finish the shed. Maybe this weekend we can get the boat out for a test run. Ethanol free gas went from 269 to 309 over last weekend so that’s going to increase the cost of the next tank of gas by 40 bucks. What a week.

Ok it seems like it was a smart idea to take the truck in to get the plugs changed. The ford dealership broke four of them. Also, while I had the truck there I had the transmission serviced. Wow what a difference this all made. So now since I did the cab mounts the steering box the plugs and transmission service this truck is like a different truck now. It’s actually fun to drive again. Now if the wether lies down and I can get the boat out.

Looking good. Glad your making use of the new building and the boat.
Out of curiosity, what's wrong with your led trailer lights? I have had several boats and trailers, swapped them all to submersible LED and never had a problem again. Most were 3-4 years before I sold, the ones I still have are still going 8 years later.

Never tried bias ply tires, all of ours run radials.

I don’t know why I only got a years worth of use out of the LED lights. I have heard of good reports on them however, my friend had them as well and he only get a years worth of use out of them. Maybe I need to try a better brand. Maybe that’s the problem. Thinking once this set is bad I will go to a trailer shop and see what they recommend.

As far as the tires go I have always been a fan of radial tires. I had bay boats in the past and this is my first offshore boat. I got a lot of wiggle out of it and after lots of research I found out bias tires last only about 12000 miles and have the stiffer side walls. So since I never get 12000 miles in five years I decided to try them. Wow what a difference it made. If you have a lighter boat with no tee top I would stay radial but if you have an heavy boat with a tee top give them a try you might like them.

I got this boat motor singing now. It was a lot of work and a whole lot of head scratching and digging. The final step was redoing the lynx n sync. I guess the procedure was changed. I followed it to a tee and she is idling just fine.

I know this is a garage journal however, I been sharing my boating stories because it’s what I have been doing in my garage. Now I have put 16 hours on my motor in a month. But if you don’t own an HPDI motor don’t buy one. There is always something wrong with this motor. Now I am chasing a lose wire or bad relay. Every time I hit boat wake with it the tach goes to zero and the motor surges and picks right back up. I am thinking a relay but don’t know how to test it. All I know is check all wires and maybe buy some new relays or wait for the problem to develop into a bigger problem. But I am trying to push further offshore so it needs to be correct.

So I had a grinding noise while apply the last portion of breaks on my mustang. I replaced the Potts and break pads. Noice still there. I tore everything back apart and lubed everything again. Then I changed the wheel bearings and the noise went away for about a week and now it has returned. WTF What could it be? It’s coming from the front and I used factory parts.

Today I took the time to try out my new orbital buffer from chemical guys. It does a very nice job. I got the mustang all polished and waxed. Also need to clean the garage now what a dump compared to the shed.

It’s been a while since I updated. Mostly because I been using the **** out of this boat. Any ways I updated the boat and installed a Rhodan trolling motor on it. I have been able to test it in the creek but not offshore since installing it. The ocean has been just pissed. I took the trailer in to get some much needed repairs done on it. I don’t have a welder and there are some small cracks forming on the trailer. As far as the garage goes I took this much needed time and got the wife’s car back up to par. Replaced the power steering line rack and pinion motor mounts, plugs, valve covers, plugs, struts, axles, and the radiator. Man this car runs great again. But wow what a lot of work to do all this. About to go get the alignment done today. 21d0dae41237b3d1e0e593ddcd0b098a.jpg

Wow it’s been a while. I got busy with work with a lack of manpower from COVID. I was actually in Asia when it began and they had no idea what to do with me at work. Anyways, I will soon be retired from this job after 27 years and I will be looking for new work. Will post on that as the time comes. Anyways I have learned a lot in the last year or so. Nobody can fix things like you can. You can make anything if you want to or repair anything if you want to. I been running this boat now for like 600 hours and many times 60 miles off shore and I have even towed some newer ones in. Just today I spent the day figuring out why my trim tab would not raise. After doing all the trouble shooting I discovered the valve seat was worn and not allowing fluid to pass anymore. Took a whole 10 bucks to fix. I was about to buy a whole new motor assemble for 350 bucks. Here I am at 10 bucks and some new fluid and back in business. I chased oil leaks all summer and man she just runs like a top. I take care of it and it takes care of me. Same thing for my cars. All cars in my driveway are at least 11 years old and over 100,000 mikes and paid for. They just run. Nothing is wrong with any of them and I stay on top of them. I really appreciate the skills I have been given to keep things working and maybe I’ll start posting more again because I truly do a lot in my garage and maybe someone will learn from me. I even started my own group in Facebook on how to repair the Yamaha HPDI motor.

Decided to get better tires for the boat trailer. I been running the cheap bias tires from Walmart. At 60-70 bucks a pop it never bothered me. But now that they are almost 200 bucks I went and got better tires. I also went up to 14 in rims as well. Currently having the boat worked on have an oil leak that I did not want to tackle.

I see it’s a while since I posted. The job took me out to Texas and I been working out there still living in Florida. Not a lot getting done in the garage. Since I am working out there and the family is here I got some newer cars so not as much maintenance going on. And the boat is just sitting right now. One more year in Texas and retirement starts. So maybe the garage jornal will get updated more. Funny I go back and all the pictures are no longer working.

Well I would at least quote for the run from main panel to sub panel in garage. If know what your doing you could do lighting and outlets if follow the rules.
That’s what I ended up doing. I done all the manual work from the house to the shed. And then I ran everything in the shed. It had not burned down in the last six years so I think I did something right. Only problem I have had with it is when charging the boat batteries the squirrels thought it was a good idea to chew the extension cord. That popped the breaker. Well when they did it the 2nd time it popped the main breaker. But I caught it in time before the bait freezer defrosted with all the bait. Also, at the time I think I had a ton of mahi and trigger in the main freezer as well. At least I caught that. And now when I charge the boat batteries I do it at night and unhook it during the day. Thinking about running an outlet next to the boat on a different breaker not to interfere with the bait and main freezer in the shed.

Well not a lot of posts or action in the shed. The older cars have been replaced with newer ones and I have been working in forth worth the last three years. The shed unfortunately has been turned into a she shed while I been out here. I have plans to solve that issue when I get back but it’s still a problem I have. I will be retiring from the navy here at the end of the year with 31 years of service and I should be making more posts and working more in the shed.

I will be retiring from the navy here at the end of the year with 31 years of service and I should be making more posts and working more in the shed.
@po28der, congratulations on your upcoming retirement. Thank you both for your years of service and thank your wife for supporting you while you've been stationed away from home.

I tried retiring at 50 but my wife told me to get a job when I bought something stupid on QVC. Spent four years working away from home but it was only every other week in the Metro DC area. Looking forward to more of your posts and try not to undo all of the she shed. Liane has a section of the garage workbench for her stuff and all the cabinet tops and highest shelves house her enormous collection of baskets (and no, I can't explanation why).

Well finally I am on terminal leave from the Navy. Been home about six weeks now and been doing a lot of catching up. Anything with a motor i have been working on trying to get things back up to par. Will start posting shed updates and projects soon I guess. A lot has happened since my last post. But for this forum we will just pick up from now. The current situation of the shed.

One of the recent projects is to update the new boat trailer. Even though the trailer is built for 15 inch wheels it came with 14in. It’s hard to find companies with quality control. After a lot of back and forth I finally got the wheels. So time to stick them on the trailer. A little before and after. Then it was time for a little test ride. Got to love these new gas prices.

Can’t believe how much it costs to keep a lawn mower running these days. I got a JD X340 off of Craigslist for about 1/3 price 15 years ago. But I guess sitting in the shed for three years takes its toll. First off I got the tires all patched up. Amazon sells these patches that are like screws but are tire patches. I would not use them on my truck but they do a good job on lawn mower tires. Then I had to replace the hood because it cracked it to many pieces. 370 bucks for the hood. Then the throttle was broken repaired that and then changed the blades out and greased everything. Not to bad but I have not even changed the filters or oil yet and into about 500 bucks on the lawn mower tires but to replace it with one of this quality I am sure is north of 5-6k now. The little cheap Murry mowers are over 2k now and they used to be ultra cheap. Almost forgot the best part. Put a new seat on it as well. It runs and looks almost brand new again.
