    I passed my electrical inspection!

One of the things I noticed helped me pass was putting a fair amount of effort into wiring the subpanel and attempting to keep it neat and tidy. It was the first thing the inspector looked at, and it seemed to set the tone for the rest of the inspection.

    I passed my electrical inspection!

The State Electrical Inspector came out today. He is a really likable guy who had previously owned his own electrical business. He ran into health issues and decided to sell the company and take a less stressful approach to life. Since I also had some health issues in years past, I can...

    Preparing for rough-in inspection

The calculations show the # of wires is below the max. Thanks for the tip on laying the wires more straight and in layers. I managed to get all the receptacles installed. :)

    Giant explosion! Burned Wires!

I woke up today with renewed vigor. I'm a day older and a lot more experienced. So I'm moving forward with the garage project. I've completed wiring the garage panel! :)

    It's a shadow. :)

    Giant explosion! Burned Wires!

Thanks for all of your comments guys. Some of them are sobering, and others are just down right funny. :) I was pretty shaken up last night by the flash, sound, and the smoke. But as it turns out the fireworks far outweighed the actual damage. Several posters' assessments were correct. Only one...

    Giant explosion! Burned Wires!

Mcbane, you're making me feel better already. Things aren't so bad. I still have my eyes! This is the first time I've ran a stick welder inside of a load center. It looks like I need some more practice, as I didn't get very good penetration into the metal. I took a quick look, and there...

    Giant explosion! Burned Wires!

That's the section of the code commonly cited for installing splices inside of load centers. Apparently, it's the only section of the code that mentions splicing inside of panels. See 0.23 in the following video for more info:

    Giant explosion! Burned Wires!

Looking at the NEC, it appears it's OK to splice the Romex wires inside the panel. That said, it's probably going to look a little ugly when finished. 2017 Code Language: N 312.8(B) Power Monitoring Equipment. The wiring space of enclosures for switches or overcurrent devices shall be...

    Giant explosion! Burned Wires!

I've been working on running remote power to my detached garage thinking I would finally be finished tomorrow. Unfortunately, it looks like I might have come to the end of the road and reached a point where I need to call in the pros. I was foolishly working on the main panel live thinking it...

    Preparing for rough-in inspection

I called L&I (electrical inspectors in WA state) and asked if I would need a rough-in inspection. The lady on the phone said, "just a minute; I'll ask Leslie." After a few minutes, she came back and said, "Leslie said you will need a rough-in inspection and a final inspection." I thought that...

    bending large PVC conduit

I found the code section that deals with this. Apparently, there's a lot of controversy about this, and it's important not to use a piece of conduit that has any evidence of discoloration. 352.24 Bends — How Made. Bends shall be so made that the conduit will not be damaged and the internal...

    Preparing for rough-in inspection

No. The walls will stay as they are. I plan to insulate and finish the ceiling next summer, but there's no conduit up there that will interfere.

    bending large PVC conduit

Will the weed burner torch cause you to fail an inspection? I used it in several spots on my 135' long 2" conduit run and also bent the wide sweep 90's at the ends. Pretty easy once you learn first by scorching a couple of practice pieces. Fortunately, there are no burn marks on my finished...

    Preparing for rough-in inspection

I'm prepping for a rough-in inspection, and I'm not sure if my work is up to par. I mounted the subpanel on some 2x4 studs I put up and put up a couple of surface mount boxes on the outside of the studs. If I had to do it over again, I would have not put the stud to the left in and instead...
