The State Electrical Inspector came out today. He is a really likable guy who had previously owned his own electrical business. He ran into health issues and decided to sell the company and take a less stressful approach to life. Since I also had some health issues in years past, I can understand where he was coming from. Quality of life matters.

The inspector was really impressed with my work and gave me kudos on multiple occasions. He indicated it's really nice to inspect work that's done to this level of detail and quality. He said only about 10% of homeowners pass the inspection on the first visit.

He laughed when I told him how much actual work was involved compared to how little work I figured it would be when I started out. :)

I just want to thank everyone who helped me through this project. At times I felt like I was in completely over my head and almost gave up near the end. The 100 amp electrical system to my detached garage really rocks. Getting rid of the hokey extension cords running through the yard is a big deal. And after 3 years of owning a 240v welder I couldn't use, I can finally use it. I have interior lights everywhere, outdoor motion sensing lights, separate 120v circuits for power tools, and unlimited future potential.

I absolutely could not have succeeded without your help. You guys rock!!!

Congratulations on passing your inspection! I just did a major electrical project yesterday and passed the inspection. The project took way longer than I thought it would.

I am shocked to hear that only 10% of homeowner inspections pass on the first try. I have never failed an inspection as a homeowner doing electrical with a permit. I was shocked at how casual the electrical inspector was yesterday during my inspection. He only really cared about some major things like the neutral being marked with white tape and having bushings on all the fittings. He didn't look at things like did I use schedule 80 conduit above ground and all that. I think doing a nice professional job convinced him I knew what I am doing.

I just passed inspection on a 200a panel. First inspection he checked all the grounds including to gas pipe. He wouldn't pass me until I stuccoed. I scheduled next day inspection for stucco and to look inside the box. He opened the panel to make sure I labeled everything but never looked at wiring inside of the panel. Said it looks great and finaled it. I think he hurt my feelings because I am rather proud of my wiring:D:D

Congratulations!

Like you, I installed service to my new garage building this year, and I credit this forum for the ease with which my inspections passed. My project was the first major electrical work I had done in over 20 years, and reading this forum for 6 months or so before applying for my permit brought me up to date on the current code requirements.

My underground/rough inspection passed on first request. My final took a second inspection; not because of any electrical issues per se, but because the inspector didn’t think I had provided sufficient lighting at the bottom of a to-be enclosed stairwell.

One of the things I noticed helped me pass was putting a fair amount of effort into wiring the subpanel and attempting to keep it neat and tidy. It was the first thing the inspector looked at, and it seemed to set the tone for the rest of the inspection.
