Let's Hear Your: "Tools I Found in the Junkyard/Road" Etc.

Just recently found a mostly-complete set of Husky 1/4" sockets. Saw it out of the corner of my eye while I was sitting at a red light. I had enough time to go out and pick it up before the light went green. Nothing special, but they are lifetime warranty.

Snap-on comfort grip issues - am I crazy?

Thanks everyone. I'll probably epoxy the grip on the 2007 ratchet. I may even tape everything off and very lightly sandblast the shank so the epoxy has somewhere to bite. The ratchet itself works great. I just don't wanna kill myself using it.

Snap-on comfort grip issues - am I crazy?

Yep. It was on there as good as I'd expect. I couldn't move it. Last night, I got the new green grip good and hot, then slid it on the 2015 ratchet. It slid all the way on by hand, but I gave it a little tap anyway to make sure. Then I immediately set it somewhere safe and let it cool on...

Snap-on comfort grip issues - am I crazy?

Hi all, Sorry to start yet another thread about the Snap-on comfort grips, but I think I'm losing my mind here. Thank you to anyone that takes the time to read through this. I bought a used FHLF80 some time ago. It's a 2007. I'd always wanted one, but couldn't afford new. No rebuild...

    New Duralast Ratchets

I wanted a 3/8" flex head ratchet for a long time, but couldn't swing a Snap-On. I ended up buying the Duralast. It's a nice smooth, reliable ratchet. It can't be beat, bang for the buck. I ended up trading my original one in after a LOT of use because the flex head torx screw stripped out...

Retrofit Snap on ratchet with 80-tooth?

I spent some hours with my new FH936A last weekend. Since I bought it, I've given it my usual treatment (disassembled, degreased, clipped, lubed, reassembled). It is a nice ratchet for sure. Time will tell as far as where I rank it in the collection, but it felt good to use immediately...

Retrofit Snap on ratchet with 80-tooth?

Thank you. I have no doubt that it's a great tool, and I'm still happy to add it to the collection. It just wasn't exactly what I was looking for. I have a FHLF80 already and I wanted the "regular" size non-flex ratchet to go with it. Lot of melting happening in eastern MA, so I'll be in my...

Retrofit Snap on ratchet with 80-tooth?

Hi all, resident idiot here. I picked up an FH936A ratchet on ebay thinking that it was an 80-tooth. Bummer, it's a 36. At least I know how the part numbering scheme works now. Stupid question (since I can't see why Snap-on would do this in the first place) but is there any way to retrofit...

    Starrett tool box

That would be great. I think the fact that they charge for the info is why there isn't much out there on the internet. I've been hunting around a bit on their forums though. I should probably create an account over there. The $50 charge for dating boxes, the $15 charge for new keys, the $30...

    Starrett tool box

A ha! Now we're getting somewhere. I did more cleaning last night. How I managed to miss this before, I'll never know: Also, I figured out how to gently remove the front door. Once I had it out and I did some dusting, I found this on the inside of the bottom panel: According to...

    Starrett tool box

Damn, nothing that I can see on the inside of the case. I took every drawer out and hunted around for anything I could see. Nothing on the drawers themselves, nothing on the back, nothing on the bottom. I need figure out how to get the door off. That's really the part that needs the most...

    Starrett tool box

Thanks everyone! After some research, it turns out it is a private-labeled Gerstner 41, made from mahogany. The pictures don't do it justice (I wish I could figure out my wife's camera). This is some beautiful wood. I can't wait to shine this up! Other than the key, it's not missing a...

    Starrett tool box

I was just given this Starrett tool box from a close friend who's moving away. It's in decent shape other than the fold-down door (some cracks) and the leather handle. I haven't found any markings on the outside other than the Starrett plaque on the bottom drawer. I still need to clean...

    Recommendations for rechargeable compressor/jumpstarter

Thanks for the recommendations. I've actually been looking at those Masterflow compressors. The compressor is actually what I used the most on the crappy jump pack I had. Looks like the reviews are pretty good no matter where you look, and there are a few in the lineup that look pretty beefy for...

    Recommendations for rechargeable compressor/jumpstarter

My battery-powered mini compressor/jumpstarter is on its last legs. It needs the battery replaced, but the compressor is barely working, so I think I might just junk it. It's a no-name POS that I bought in a pinch and I've never been thrilled with it. My workplace has this one...
