Hi all, resident idiot here. I picked up an FH936A ratchet on ebay thinking that it was an 80-tooth. Bummer, it's a 36. At least I know how the part numbering scheme works now.

Stupid question (since I can't see why Snap-on would do this in the first place) but is there any way to retrofit an 80-tooth wheel into a ratchet like this?

Sorry, but no. 80 tooth kits won't fit your ratchet.

Your FH936A is still a great ratchet. I've never been all that hung up about finer tooth ratchets. I have a few dual 80s but don't really prefer them much if at all over my 936s. I find it's very rare that I get into such a tight spot that it makes any noticeable difference and the 36 tooth ratchets just feel more solid and trustworthy to hang my weight on when need be, but that's just me.

It took me forever to trust the dual 80s were going to be up to the task for the long haul but the SHLF80 finally did make me a believer. I still think you can't go wrong with either.

Thank you. I have no doubt that it's a great tool, and I'm still happy to add it to the collection. It just wasn't exactly what I was looking for. I have a FHLF80 already and I wanted the "regular" size non-flex ratchet to go with it.

Lot of melting happening in eastern MA, so I'll be in my garage to put some miles on this ratchet before long. Maybe I'll be surprised. No question it "feels" beefy just turning it by hand.

I spent some hours with my new FH936A last weekend. Since I bought it, I've given it my usual treatment (disassembled, degreased, clipped, lubed, reassembled). It is a nice ratchet for sure. Time will tell as far as where I rank it in the collection, but it felt good to use immediately.

WWheeler, I think "trustworthy" is a great word to describe the coarser-pitch wheels. This is the first time I gave it a good workout and there was no questioning the beef of this tool just by the feel of it.

Happy accident that I ended up with it I guess.
