Just for fun, if you are of a certain age- do you still have any of your first tools?

I'm 71 and I purchased my first set of tools when I was a sophomore in college. I was away from home and didn't have access to my dads tools so I needed some of my own. I wasn't actively looking for a set of tools but knew I needed some when I was in Sears one day and happened to notice that...

Shower head with handheld sprayer for rental???

My wife and I own 9 rental units and we manage/maintain 7 more owned by my sister. I would avoid the hand held shower heads as it is just that much more stuff for tenants to break. As for cleaning, we stress to our tenants that we expect the unit to be as clean when they leave as it was when...

Who has a toilet in shop or at least a sink

48windsor, My shop is about 6 feet below the grade of my house and about 250 feet away. I put a sealed sump in the floor with a toilet flange that empties into the sump. It has provisions for a grinder pump and a 2 inch outlet that can be run uphill to the sewer.

50x40 in Midwest (KC Area) - roof questions

My dad had a Morton building built on our farm in 1982. It was the first building built in our area with laminated columns versus 6 X 6 posts. It is a fully enclosed machine shed, no floor or heat. Roof still not leaking!

    i want a tool

How did you get to this point in your life, and just now are asking this question? Did you really need that aforementioned power unit? Did you really need the tools you mentioned that are powered by this power unit? Do you really need the garage/shop that house these tools? Couldn't you...

I'm an idiot , what's the best way to fix my garage door ?

I had the exact same problem on one of my rentals. Also it looks like the exact same door. I was going to get 2 new panels (at Menards), but that was only about $20 cheaper than a whole new door, and the door was in stock instead of having to wait on a special order. Now I have lots of spare...

I always, invariably, am missing 1 or 2 tools to complete a job

I do most of the maintenance on our 16 rental houses and have accumulated a large number of tools just for that purpose. Most are duplicates of things I have in the shop, but these rental are 40 miles from where we live so running home to get something is not real convenient. My wife...

    I'm an idiot...

There you go telling the whole world that you put a non-certified part on your airplane!! A while back there was a discussion on Pilots of America about the ridiculous cost of a small part. I suggested that I could make it in about 10 minutes on my lathe and no one would ever know the...

    Siding Question

Pretty sure its Masonite lap siding. Very common for the years you mention. I doubt it will survive deconstruction. Never heard of anyone selling it as a used material.

Radiant Floor Thermal Break at garage doors

I did as was suggested above and put my thermal break directly under the door. I placed a piece of two inch thick foam vertically to serve as the form (backed with wood). Then I placed a piece of 2 inch channel iron on top of the foam at floor level, and then poured the concrete. Then repeat...

    Caster issue

I have had similar problems with casters in the past. It seems to me that cheap casters have too much play in the center pin as you mentioned, but also they don't have enough balls in the bearing. I use the 4 inch, red wheeled casters that I get at Northern Tool. They aren't cheap at $16 each...

    Irwin Quick Grip Clamps

Thanks for the replies. I guess I will try some of the new ones and see how they work. Wish they made them in yellow, all I see is black.

    Irwin Quick Grip Clamps

Here are some pictures of what I am talking about. The first picture is a 6 in. Quick Grip clamp and a 6 in. Quick Grip Mini clamp. The second picture is a later model Quick Grip clamp with a reversible head. The third and fourth picture is the pads. The larger yellow pad is what I am...

    Irwin Quick Grip Clamps

Hello All, I have quite a few Irwin Quick Grip Clamps. A few I bought new, but most I have acquired at auctions and garage sales. I am able to find replacement pads for the mini clamps but not so much luck finding them for the regular size clamps. Can anyone point me in the right direction...
