    SUCCESS!! Dremeled the bores smooth, cleaned and lubed, reassembled. Smooth from full open to closed tight. Thanks to all, without info I learned from this forum I would have undoubtedly bought a new, expensive chuck.

    Got the chuck apart pretty easily. Inside was clean, but I had to drive one jaw out with a punch! The other two pushed out somewhat easy, but were still snug. Couldn't see any reason for the chuck to be so tight. Cleaned and lubed every thing, started back together, and the jaws wouldn't...

    Yep, even if it needs a rebuild kit it's still way cheaper than a new chuck.

    Thanks for the reply. Didn't know you could disassemble a Jacobs chuck! I'll see if its better in the morning and if not I'll you tube it.

    Brought this nice old Atlas 1060 home this morning. Really good condition, even has an Atlas motor. Only issue is the Jacobs chuck is nearly frozen, got it off and soaking in diesel tonight. Trying to determine an age for it, not having much success. The serial number is pretty high from...
