Champion 80 gallon Restomod has begun

Bonus from drawing air from a clean air space and never getting the grinding dust etc in the filter

Champion 80 gallon Restomod has begun

Sounds good. I feel since you're going that far, a cheap 12v rad fan controlled by the VFD to cool everything for x amount of time once the motor stops would be a cool addition...

Giant air compressor Info, Saylor Beall?

You can make your own gasket. Order a bit of Garlock 3000(or equivalent, klingersil makes some nice stuff) gasket material and 5 minutes tapping with the round end of a ballpeen hammer. For all the other gaskets around the pump cheap felpro karropak of the correct thickness would be what I...

Can I plumb two 60 gallon compressors together?

Just make sure they are rated for same psi, if not set them both to the lower rated unit.

How hard is it to sharpen drill bits freehand on a diamond stone or do you need a drill doctor?

Sharpening drill bits on a bench grinder is an art that anyone who drills even a modest amount of steel should learn. We've all seen guys struggle trying to drill a hole through some metal, sweating. Thinking dang that's tough, and all it is was a dull drill bit. Watch some YouTube videos...

Giant air compressor Info, Saylor Beall?

Just one thing to note, if it is Saylor beall then typically only Saylor Beall parts fit. Valves/internal parts etc. Clones may or may not be interchangeable with other clones. Could try sending Saylor beall a photo and asking them as from what I remember usually, but not, always the Saylor...

Giant air compressor Info, Saylor Beall?

Definitely some version of a 705 / clone. Great pump, many manufactures Sanborn sc23, webster etc. should be able to find parts easily if needed.

Old air compressor motor replacement or???

Like mentioned looks to be tied into the head unloader & and auto drain most likely. Definitely not hokey, and more on the lines of "they don't build them like they used to" If it functions correctly the tank is probably fine. You could always hydro test it if you're concerned, but the old...

    I don't think you'll ever regret putting a VFD on a compressor.

Champion 80 gallon Restomod has begun

I will double check when I am home in a couple weeks but I believe it was 3s accel and for decel I left it as coast to a stop which I believe you will want to do as well if you research VFD/air compressors. Nothing to be gained from using the VFD as a brake. I wanted the fairly quick accel...

Biggest gain for me was the soft start. Used to dim the lights in the shop with a 5hp single phase now it doesn't flinch with the 7.5hp 3 phase. I run it at 50hz unless I need more air and it still produces more than my 5hp did only much quieter.

Ive used both Vevor & Mollom VFD's for my lathe and 7.5hp compressor. Mollom had a better instruction manual but they both seem well built & were easy enough to program with lots of features.

How hard to drill a 1/4 inch hole in 11 gauge steel? Can you do it by hand?

Good sharp bit. Good centre punch. Position the work so you can be overtop pushing down(preferably). Slower rpm & lots of downforce. Drill like butter.

    ARCCAPTAIN thread

I had a herocut 50 for many years and was always very happy with it. Upgraded the torch to an AG60 style and never let me down.

    ARCCAPTAIN thread

How do you like the Mig welder? As the years go on their stuff gets more & more tempting. I was/still am always an advocate for the cheap plasma cutters and I believe the welders are getting closer & closer. Was considering a cheap Tig welder but came across a basically new Syncrowave 180sd...
