The uses and usefulness of different wrench types

You could describe them that way and be very precise doing so, but if you asked a dealer for some he'd look at you funny and then say, "Oh! You want a set of angle wrenches." Service wrenches are short, single open ended but feature a different offset than your angle wrenches. If your angles...

The uses and usefulness of different wrench types

Angle wrenches are some of my favorites. They are short, and angled so usefully... Not something you grab every day but they can save so much time. I'd like to add a set of service wrenches to the mix. Then I'd have double and single open end wrenches. No fitting would be safe.

how to use a thread file

I've always had much better luck with triangle files. Thread files never seem to do much of anything for me.

    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT BlakeTheCarGuy’s Basement Shop

I don't think there's anything wrong with living at home so long as you are contributing, so I'll be interested in seeing how you set up. I'm working on planning on a shed shop now.

Using Atlas Lathe to Turn Rotors

I'm a junk mender for a company. Hourly pay to raise the dead, in many cases. Last year I rigged the vacuum actuated choke to a hand pump on a completely worn out Suzuki Carry so some of our guys could keep it going for just a little bit longer. It worked out okay until they decided to stop...

Using Atlas Lathe to Turn Rotors

I'm imagining a spectacular crash... Broken change gears.... Flying rotor.... It'd fit well with my department!

Using Atlas Lathe to Turn Rotors

I'm still waiting on drills and center drills for the Atlas. If I asked for carbide, they'd probably tell me to buy it myself if I needed it that badly....

Using Atlas Lathe to Turn Rotors

Yeah, it's probably not worth the effort. I'm not even sure if you could mount these rotors in a brake lathe. They have a weird shape and the "hub" appears to be integrated into the rotor with the bearing packed in behind. So whatever cut you make would have to sneak in behind the hub surface...

Using Atlas Lathe to Turn Rotors

That's my worry. I got caught up trying to get the parking brake working today and that'll probably eat up the rest of my allotted time until the struts come in. Unless the shop next door opens up in time I'll probably just ship it with new pads once it's safe to drive. I will have to cut some...

Using Atlas Lathe to Turn Rotors

It's an Atlas 12" lathe and the rotors are a badly worn pair from a JD Gator. What are my chances of success with HSS tooling? Before anyone says to replace the rotors, they're over $300 a piece.... This machine is badly busted. Struts and ball joints are already on the way so at least I know I...

    Snap On ratchet handle preference?

I have quite a few soft grip ratchets. When they get especially grimy I set the handle in the ultrasonic cleaner with a bit of dish soap. They come out almost like new aside from gouges.

Do I need a push mower with a zero turn mower?

In your situation I would seriously consider a stander. Much more compact than a traditional zero turn, and you don't get swamp **** sitting on the thing. It's really much more comfortable and if you have trees you can get under lower branches than on a rider by squatting. Hustler makes a...

Difficulties to read oil level on new (clean) oil...

Even if it's shiny between the marks it can be difficult to see when you're on the money. At least for me. Until I heard RN's paper towel trick the spin was the best I had.

Difficulties to read oil level on new (clean) oil...

That's brilliant. We have a few difficult to see sticks at the shop... And my eyes aren't so good... I'll have to remember that one.
