Big thanks to you guys. You are awesome. The search was captivating. I thoroughly enjoyed all the twists and turns. Additionally, it looks like a relatively rare item given no other has been found, to date. Lucky this was intercepted heading out for scrap:D

Great discussion, thanks! Admittedly it is ambiguous but I vote 1937 To throw some light onto the "date" stamp, I've cleaned then captured in different light situations.

It's made from 1/4" plate. Of note is the wider end, it has a bevel, coarsely hand ground as per pic. Flip it over and there's a similar bevel there too.

Thanks, that's great food for thought. I wondered if Buff was an abbreviation for Buffalo NY?

Somewhat screwdriver like.. No signs of use. It looks most likely to read: N HYD BUFF NO.146 AS&S T1 1937 Broad arrow with a "C" was used by Canada Canada Government marks and codes Refer to post #12

Sorry, I missed the obvious piece of info. Yes it is about 5" long, good guess Old Man Roger. And another important clue in this pic of mark on back..

First post here. Pete from NZ, mad tool collector extraordinaire☺️ This tool turned up in scrap metal. It looks a bit like a morse taper wedge however it's not thin enough of a point to enter, at least not on my MT. Stamping has some good clues. Thanks
