Anyone here know log home construction?

Most of the log home I have helped build were held together by long 10 inch spikes. Is it possible that it is spiked from top and setting on a spike in concrete at the bottom?

    Gas Welder

The generator ability is a plus but not necessary. I plan on stick only. Cost is my biggest limitation. I am retiring to the family farm I inherited. Diesel would be great but out of my price I think. I'll look at the Trailblazer. Thanks!

    Gas Welder

Gonna purchase a gas-powered welder to use around the farm. Looked like Lincoln, Miller, or Hobart. So far, about $3000 is the best deal I've found for the Hobart 225. Lincoln a little more, Miller a lot more. What do you all think? Advice? Not gonna do a lot of welding. Any reason the Hobart...

Dropped a mower deck wheel assembly on my foot -

At 17 years old I let an air powered tamper get on my toes! Had on work boots but not steel toed. I could feel boots filling with blood! Flipped nails out of the toe from the backside if that make sense. Nails eventually fell off. Never grew right. Always had severe ingrown toenails. Now almost...

Is this a working small anvil?

I do have a short piece of railroad iron made into an anvil. It perfectly formed. Cannot see any grind marks on it. Will post a pic tomorrow. Thanks to all!

Is this a working small anvil?

I will keep and thanks for all the responses! I think it was added onto the side of another larger vise or anvil. I will add another pic.

Is this a working small anvil?

The anvil was bought at an estate sale in west Texas years ago. Previous owner said her father unbolted it from a workbench in a working farmer's shop.

Is this a working small anvil?

I have a small anvil with a bell cast in the base. The base is hollow. I am afraid good whack might crack with the hollow bell/base. 14" long, 9" wide & 6" tall. I am trying to upload pics but having a hard time.

Mistakes that Could have gone Really Wrong.

Worked with my dad as a kid. We has a worn out moto crane in the shop to rebuild, body, motor, tran and brakes. We we finished with everything except the brakes. Hard headed operator came in and insisted he was taking to a job down the road. Dad said I'm not through. Guy said he didn't care, he...
