Routing air compressor intake outside. Minimum operating tempurature?

Hey everyone. Recently bought a 5HP 60gal CH air compressor. I'm hoping to route the intake somewhere that I do not have to listen to it as much. (Noisy) Outside is the obvious choice, but in my manual it states a -5C minimum safe operating tempurature. My area can see -40C during the...

My new Craftsman 109 metal lathe.

Hey All, Before you pull out the pitchforks, I am aware of what I bought, it's limited usefulness, spindle weakness, etc. etc. Craftsman 109! I have a full set of change gears, some cutters, 3 and 4 jaw chucks (one auto centering) Working motor, everything runs. yay! Totally only have this...

Relationship Between Air Compressor Motor HP and Pump HP

On the stamp it claims: 240V 12A 2HP

Relationship Between Air Compressor Motor HP and Pump HP

240V X 12A = 2880W / 800 = 3.6 HP? (1.6HP above the stamp on the label.) Seems like 80% is a pretty significant difference. (That would mean the motor is 60% efficient?)

Relationship Between Air Compressor Motor HP and Pump HP

Just wanted to follow up comment now that I've read the chart provided, and re-read your comment. This chart is actually a hugely helpful resource, I really appreciate you passing it along. Got it. When shopping, pump manufacturers are careful to slap HP numbers on their marketing materials...

Relationship Between Air Compressor Motor HP and Pump HP

Stamp says 240V - 12 Amp - 1725rpm Sounds like a plan! So follow up question. If for example a true 2HP rated motor was hooked to a true 3HP pump, what would happen?

Don't want to blow myself up. Looking for Advice

I hydro tested myself to ~250PSI (I didn't think to get a gauge that went high enough, gauge used capped out at 200PSI, but kept going at a rate that should have brought it to 260psi) held it at this pressure for 30 mins. Working pressure will be 115PSI I actually used a grease gun, which...

Relationship Between Air Compressor Motor HP and Pump HP

I recently bought an air compressor from my local classifieds. It's been pressure tested and confirmed safe for use. (Story) Pump isn't high enough CFM for the massive tank. I've been looking into new pumps for this bad boy, but am having troubles understanding the correlation between pump HP...

Don't want to blow myself up. Looking for Advice

Hey, Just a follow up for everyone! Pressure Tested, holds that pressure fine. I plan to sandblast and paint everything in the spring. Thanks for your help everyone! I have some technical questions about the relationship between motor HP and Pump HP ratings, but will open a new thread...

Don't want to blow myself up. Looking for Advice

Alright, I'm convinced, will figure out a way to hydro test it if it shows any signs of rust (like I'm sure it will) To be clear on the process, as I haven't stumbled across an actual how-to: Fill with water to brim, add T fitting to only unsealed hole in tank, pressure guage on one end, grease...

You must be in the market then, as I snagged that up pretty quickly, Same seller has a massive diesel steamer for sale for $50, not sure if of interest to you, but the engine alone must be worth more then $50. Link Thanks, Will confirm tonight and everyone know what I find. Assuming there is...

Don't want to blow myself up. Looking for Advice

Hey Team, Recently bought an air compressor from a gentleman on my local classifieds. (White = Snow, Lame.) Advertised as 100Gallon. Clearly has a retrofitted pump on it, not sure about the motor, but doubt original. In particular I'm looking for help deciphering the label on the tank and...

Help finding Glass Bead - Blasting media

Hey, I've been hunting down glass bead blasting abrasives in YYC Canada for sometime now. I haven't had any luck with princess auto, the only place in town I've found that has this stuff. Anyone know where else I should look, and what I should expect to pay?

Help! - Air compressor slows down as pressure builds, then stops at ~50 PSI

Got it working! Turns out the last owner wired the outlet incorrectly, with one of the powered leads running to the neutral. Funnily, the work I did was correct with the black and red cables being positive, but the mistake was made by an earlier handyman! --> It was only getting 120V instead of...
