Air Compressor Problem: Motor Hums in Standby

Were you responding to The Cobbler's suggestion in post #7? I am pretty sure the motor was the source of the hum, because it got pretty hot, even when the compressor cycled just one time to reach standby. If I didn't power down the compressor quickly after it started humming, it would not...

Air Compressor Problem: Motor Hums in Standby

UPDATE: The compressor began operating correctly again. No more hum in standby mode. The motor would get hot after just seconds in the faulty standby mode. Now that the hum is gone, the motor no longer gets hot in standby. When it starts acting up again, I will resume troubleshooting.

Air Compressor Problem: Motor Hums in Standby

Thanks, I will try that. The part PCustoms asked about is the solenoid valve. Excerpt from the owner's manual below: SOLENOID VALVE Your JC10 air compressor is equipped with an electronic solenoid valve which dumps head pressure when your machine reaches top pressure or is unplugged. This...

Air Compressor Problem: Motor Hums in Standby

Hum does stop when the compressor is unplugged. It seems like the sound comes from the motor, I will take a closer look. The pressure switch powers off the compressor when the set pressure it reached. Are you saying check to see if it is the source of the hum? If by "coil" you mean the black...

Air Compressor Problem: Motor Hums in Standby

My Rolair JC10 air compressor reaches the set pressure and goes into standby mode with no problems, but when in standby, the motor is humming instead of being powered off. When the tank pressure drops, the motor will resume running, but when it returns to standby the motor hums. Any ideas on how...

    Fastener Identification Question

The fastener I bought from Ace was a m5-.80. This afternoon I purchased metric and SAE screw pitch gauges. I used a soldering stand that has a magnifying glass to help out my eyes. Both fasteners look to be .8 pitch. The Ace fastener is 4.7 mm diameter, the OEM fastener is 4.4 mm diameter. Ace...

    Fastener Identification Question

Thanks for the clarification. The piece I described as a stud is a bracket with a threaded hole in it for the fastener. They do. I wish they included the specifications of the fasteners. The parts catalog states "Part 94873, Screw -Hex" and that is all. The three fasteners with shipping is...

    Fastener Identification Question

An Ace Associate used my original (the black fastener) to provide the spare for me. Three of these fasteners are used to attach the air cleaner base to a carburetor on a Briggs & Stratton 6-hp, 4-cycle engine. No nuts are involved. Two screw into the casting on the carburetor facing and the...

    Fastener Identification Question

In the photo below, is the dark colored fastener considered a screw because of the tapered end, and the light colored fastener a bolt? The light colored fastener is a replacement from Ace Hardware. Even though the threads are the same, it will not thread into the female threads on the Briggs &...

Where To Buy Shop Vac Hose Inserts?

I went to a Sears Parts Store with the old insert. The Sears part number that nikonica provided, #815096, matched up with the original, so it is the correct part. It cost $6.73. Here is a close-up picture of the insert, so it looks much bigger than actual size, which is about 41/4" long with a...

Where To Buy Shop Vac Hose Inserts?

For the sake of anyone else who might be looking for similar pieces for a Craftsman vac of this era: The Shop-Vac brand hose insert from Menards was too big. I even heated both the hose and insert in hot water to soften them up, still no luck. When I purchase something that works, I will pass...

Where To Buy Shop Vac Hose Inserts?

Thanks for the help everyone. Nikonica - that looks like the part I need. Which is odd, because the Sears parts direct website does not list that part in any of the diagrams for my vacuum. At least now I have some options. Thanks again.

Where To Buy Shop Vac Hose Inserts?

Thanks for the advice. My vacuum is a model 113.177040, so it is an Emerson. Home Depot has a Ridgid model VT2522 universal 20' long 21/2" vacuum hose with inserts for $24.97. I don't need the hose, only the inserts, which seem to be difficult to find as a separate item. I might end up buying...

Where To Buy Shop Vac Hose Inserts?

I have a 20 year old Sears Craftsman 16 gallon shop vac that uses 21/2" diameter hose. The corrugated hose itself is fine, it is the inserts that go into the corrugated hose that are broken. Replacement hose assemblies are available, but I have not been able to locate a source for just the...
