Where To Buy Shop Vac Hose Inserts?

I have a 20 year old Sears Craftsman 16 gallon shop vac that uses 21/2" diameter hose. The corrugated hose itself is fine, it is the inserts that go into the corrugated hose that are broken. Replacement hose assemblies are available, but I have not been able to locate a source for just the inserts. My vacuum uses the old style inserts, the ones that are held in place by friction.

If anyone has any suggestions for me, I would appreciate the help.

Have you looked at Home Depot? I've gotten parts there for my old Craftsman.

Craftsman wet dry vacs have been made by two companies Emerson (113 model prefix, same as Ridgid that Home Depot sells) and Shop Vac (338 model prefix). You probably have an Emerson variant.

Thanks for the advice. My vacuum is a model 113.177040, so it is an Emerson. Home Depot has a Ridgid model VT2522 universal 20' long 21/2" vacuum hose with inserts for $24.97.

I don't need the hose, only the inserts, which seem to be difficult to find as a separate item. I might end up buying the Ridgid 20' kit just to save myself the aggravation.

But thanks for the idea of determining who made the vac for Sears. That might help me ultimately find the inserts.

I haven't looked at all the shop vac parts at Home Depot, but they do have a large section of hose parts, bits and pieces.
Hopefully you wont need a whole kit.

Thanks for the help everyone. Nikonica - that looks like the part I need. Which is odd, because the Sears parts direct website does not list that part in any of the diagrams for my vacuum.

At least now I have some options. Thanks again.

I bought one at a Sears outlet. It probably wouldn't be on the parts list for your vacuum because a loose insert wasn't part of the original kit.

I've seen them at Menards and Home Depot in the past.

No problem. Emerson stopped supplying Sears with vacs about 10 years ago. I think I have one or two Emerson made ones and a few "338" units. I find the 338 units to be quieter, but both work fine.

I have an old 1970's Craftsman dual motor "shop_n_vac" (758 prefix) that uses those hose ends. I think that I saw them at Rockler or Woodcraft as 'todd_fuller' suggested. I still have the original very flexible hose that came with my vac, I fear the day when I have to replace it with what is available now.

I believe "758" may have also been Emerson (perhaps a different division of their company back then...). You might call them and ask.

For the sake of anyone else who might be looking for similar pieces for a Craftsman vac of this era: The Shop-Vac brand hose insert from Menards was too big. I even heated both the hose and insert in hot water to soften them up, still no luck. When I purchase something that works, I will pass the info along.

I went to a Sears Parts Store with the old insert. The Sears part number that nikonica provided, #815096, matched up with the original, so it is the correct part. It cost $6.73.

Here is a close-up picture of the insert, so it looks much bigger than actual size, which is about 41/4" long with a 2" inside diameter. I do not have a photo right now of the hose end.
